Honor continues to suffer from the brakes imposed by the United States on the brand as a subsidiary of Huawei, which does not prevent the phone maker from continuing to develop exceptional smartphones which this time will arrive in the form of the V40 series.
The company’s V-series devices have become the crème de la crème as part of the brand’s annual launch portfolio, delivering top-notch performance and complemented by powerful cameras.
Honor regularly pulls knowledge of what’s new in Huawei’s phone catalog, then twists and adjusts those devices until they stay in cheaper models with small compromises that users tend to care less about.
Huawei itself has confirmed that it continues to sell Honor, phones that were said to have been in development for months before finally going on sale. This could mean that these are the last Honor flagships to be released under the Huawei umbrella.
When will the Honor V40 series be released?
Arriving a little later than last year’s V30 line (which landed November 26, 2019), Weibo rumors cite a mid-December 2020 release for at least two Honor V40 series phones.
However, in late November, leaks began to cast doubt on that timeline, with publication apparently being delayed until early January 2021.
How much does the Honor V40 cost?
The V30 series came with three different models, the V30, V30 Pro and V30 Pro + with prices which were at the time of launch of 390, 515 and 645 $ respectively. In this way, the brand increases the prices of the previous generation by 12% year after year.
Assuming this equivalent for the new models, it will all depend on which chip ultimately implements the new V40, as it is not certain that the new series will contain the all-powerful Kirin 9000 processor model inside.
That way, if the V40 had the MediaTek chip capable of competing with the Snapdragon 865 itself, the V40 series could have moderate prices that would range between $ 449 for the most basic model and $ 699 for the high-end model. Pro +.
What features does the Honor V40 offer?
The V40 series is expected to consist of three devices (compared to the two models in last year’s V30 lineup): Honor V40, Honor V40 Pro, and Honor V40 Pro +.
In addition to providing a window of release dates for the V40 series, prestigious Chinese tech blogger Dragon Two Pro and source Weibo point out that the datasheet would be composed as follows.
They both mention a 120Hz high refresh rate Full HD + display with a dual-hole front camera setup, a 50 MP main camera with RYYB pixels and an impressive 66W wired charging, as well as a fast wireless charging. 40 W.
The source never mentions which device these specs belong to, but does make the distinction that one device will ship with Huawei’s latest 5nm Kirin 9000 chipset, while another will use MediaTek’s SoC Dimensity 1000+.
However, this prediction was questioned by another Chinese insider, Digital Chat Station, which claims the V40 series will not feature the Kirin 9000. It was initially unclear if this could be due to a shortage of inventory within Huawei.
This leak also provided a code name for the V40 series in “YORK” with the model number YOK-AN10 attached to one of the expected devices.
Previous leaks (via MyFixGuide) suggested that only the V40 Pro + would benefit from this 120Hz refresh rate, while the other two models would upgrade to more modest 90Hz displays.
All models will reportedly use a 32 MP front camera, and only the Pro + will sport a secondary ToF sensor. The Kirin 9000 chip was originally intended to be reserved for the Plus model, while MediaTek’s would power the V40 and V40 Pro.
With this latest development removing the Kirin from the setup, there is a chance that the Pro + will arrive later, either ship with a Dimensity 1000+, or ultimately not launch, although it is still too early to go. venture into speculation.
