It has reached a point in this hardware world where no one wants to be left behind – neither businesses nor users. The resizable BAR technology has reached the depths of hearts, and as a good new technology it is still very limited, so getting support to gain free performance has mobilized the community and compelled companies to lend their support.
Resizable BAR reached more platforms than expected
This controversy exploded and almost out of shape when ASUS announced that BIOS support would be limited to Z490 as high-end chipset already H470, B460 and H410 in the medium or low range, all in the 10th generation of processors supported by these chipsets.
Sure, the latest Z590s at the helm get immediate support with 10th and 11th gen processors, but that meant leaving behind. Z370 and Z390 in ReBAR, after an important or very important expenditure of many users who saw themselves out of an option which must be activated simply by software and not precisely for lack of compatibility.
Months later and after seeing how all brands rolled out updates for these two chipsets, ASUS backed off and finally got down to business after the reviews it received, and ultimately it was the competition that was used to watch the giant.
Therefore, that Z370 and Z390 cards receiving help is not only successful because of community pressure, but it is also beneficial for users who may be reading this article and not knowing it now. And for this reason, we are going to explain how this technology can be activated easily and quickly in the system BIOS.
And is the ASUS BIOS on these two platforms exactly the same and the setting to enable is the same, so we will just have to follow the corresponding instructions to achieve this, but first we need to know that it There are limits to this technology, as not all GPUs will be able to do this.
System requirements for NVIDIA
Here, logically, we must add the eighth and ninth generation processors from Intel as well as the Z370 and Z390 chipsets as we have commented. On the other hand, at AMD we have all 5000 series of processors, all 500 series chipsets and some 400 series cards which are gradually being updated.
GPU support is limited, for now, to the RTX 3000 series, but it’s likely that NVIDIA will turn on the tap in a short time at least to the RTX 2000 and all of its models.
Having seen this, the first thing that we will now have to take into account is that only a few games have the possibility of enjoying Resizable BAR, although the way to activate it in any game was discovered using NVIDIA Inspector.
How to activate on ASUS Z370 / Z390 ReBAR?
First, we will need to go to the ASUS website and our specific model to download the new BIOS in BETA format. These BIOSes are not certified by Intel as such and ASUS also specifies that the only improvement is the introduction of the resizable bar for the RTX 3000.
In our case, we have a ASUS Maximus X Formula, so as we see that the BIOS is correctly classified and we will flash it EZ Update In the BIOS itself, but not before setting all the settings to default, we don’t want it to be corrupted and not flashing properly.
Once flashed, what we’ll see is a screen like this:
If we see a screen that is the same or similar to this, we are simply in EZ mode. As this mode is simpler and more graphic than the mode we will explain later, just go to the top of the screen looking for the Resize BAR parameter, as shown in the image.
If we click on it, we will see that a small menu will appear that will tell us whether or not we want to activate this technology via the typical “on” “off”. Just give On and F10 to save the settings and accept.
If we have the more traditional BIOS mode that deploys the full potential of the card, also called advanced mode, the BIOS image will be the typical one:
To activate the resizable bar we will have to scroll to the penultimate parameter in what is called the menus, in particular the start menu, and there we will have to activate the option that is disabled by default “Above 4G decoding“.
This setting, although it goes by this name, is the one that allows you to enable the resizable bar for NVIDIA GPUs, so again, we’ll just have to set it to Enable and press F10 to save. the BIOS as such.
Once the PC restarts and we return to Windows, we will need to go to the NVIDIA Control Panel and click on System Information. In this menu once opened, we will see that there is a section that appears with the name Resizable BAR, where you have to put “Yes”.
If this is correct, all the steps will be done well and we can enjoy this technology on our PC. It should be noted that this is not a guaranteed performance as such in the games that enabled it, it is simply an option that will allow us in certain scenarios to achieve a much greater transfer of information between CPU, memory and GPU / VRAM.
This is handy to know and to clarify, as it is possible that there is no profit as such since we did not have a bottleneck in this scenario and it will not be the fault of the platform Z370 or Z390 and ReBAR.
