Over the years, we’ve seen how newer generations of the Windows operating system have tried to centralize app and program downloads through their own Microsoft Store to avoid bad user experiences.
The store has beefed up its content to offer a host of games, utilities, productivity apps, and more as part of its online store. However, other game stores like Valve’s Steam or Epic Games Store offered games that Microsoft did not have.
Now, with the arrival of Windows 11, Microsoft has announced that PC and laptop users can enjoy mobile apps, especially thousands of apps developed for Android devices.
Until now, this was only possible with system emulators such as BlueStacks, and not always guaranteeing good results. With the successive updates of Windows 11 it is already possible and we will tell you how you can do it.
How can I install Android apps on Windows 11?
Until very recently, Microsoft had not yet enabled this ability to install native Android apps on Windows 11 computers, so installing Android apps was complicated.
Now, with the latest released version, this has changed significantly as it now allows users to install and use certain Android apps on their PC. However, this is only the beginning, as the app offer is still very limited.
To use the mobile apps on your Windows 11 PCyou need to install Amazon Appstore from the Microsoft Store. Once configured, you will be able to search and install Android mobile applications from a selected catalog.
The app itself seems to take over all the background work. You should see a brief splash screen appear, informing you that your PC is configuring the necessary virtualization features, then downloading the files.
Once the download and installation process is complete, you will need to log in to your Amazon account or create one if you haven’t already. (This doesn’t mean you have to subscribe to Prime or any other Amazon service.)
After completing this step, you can open the Appstore and select one of the third-party apps offered by Amazon. Installation is as easy as clicking on it to install.
Each app will appear in your app list and you can pin it to the list of app shortcuts in the start menu. Most apps appear in portrait format, resembling those on an Android smartphone.
At the moment, the quantity and quality of games leaves a lot to be desired. Most of them are what we would normally call crapware, as is the case with titles like “Lords Mobile, My Talking Tom, Matchington Mansion”, etc.
So far, Microsoft claims to have a library of just over a thousand apps and games available on the Amazon Appstore. The company’s plans are to continue standardizing titles that are of great interest to users of its operating system.
What configuration requirements do I need to meet?
Normally, if your computer is compatible with Windows 11, chances are you can install Android apps on your computer. The requirements that Microsoft marks on its website are as follows:
- 8th Gen Intel Core i3, AMD Ryzen 3000, or Snapdragon 8c processor
