Facebook Messenger doesn’t explicitly tell you if you’ve been blocked by someone. In fact, you can still find the contact who blocked you in the app and send them messages – they just won’t receive them. Instead, you’ll have to do a bit of detective work to find out whether the person in question has decided they’ve had enough contact with you.
Here are the steps to follow if you want to know if you have been blocked on Facebook Messenger.
How to check if you have been blocked on Messenger
As we said above, there are no warnings or other indicators that you have been blocked, but there are telltale signs that can confirm your suspicions.
To find out, open Facebook Messenger and search for the person you think blocked you. At first everything will seem normal, with their account appearing in search results or usually in your contacts list within the app.
The way to find out is to simply try sending them a message. Compose your message as you normally would, then press the Send button.
In our case, the message was displayed as follows: Sent (there is a circle next to it with a check mark inside) but it just stayed in that state permanently.
Normally, once the person receives the message, you will see the circle change from empty to filled with color (as shown below).
Then, when they open the message on their device, you should see the circle disappear.
We believe that this “no reception” approach should be such that the person can deny having blocked the other party, if they were to speak to them via another format, thus avoiding any embarrassment or confrontation.
We’ve seen some people report that they received a “Message not sent” or “This person is not receiving messages at the moment” warning. Your mileage may therefore vary.
If the person’s account doesn’t appear at all when you search for them, this could indicate that their account has been disabled or deleted rather than that they have blocked you. After all, there are people who have given up on the Meta-owned social network in recent years.
There is no way to appeal a block or anything like that, as it remains entirely up to the account holder’s discretion to decide who can access their content. The only way to get back into someone’s good graces is to try contacting them through a friend or another platform, in case the reason for blocking is accidental or a misunderstanding.
If someone blocked you, relax and try not to worry about it. If they blocked you, who needs them, right?
