How to reduce AMD GPU temperatures with drivers

AMD, drivers, GPU, reduce, temperatures

Problems with using AMD against NVIDIA are a fact that has been proven for years. NVIDIA builds even in the worst lithographic process are more efficient than those used in AMD.

In this case we have to add another handicap, and the fact that BIOS SKUs are not as high as its competitor, so volume capacity and quantity are possible.

Navi has taken a step forward in this regard as a construction, but the remainder is very much happening and AMD must continue to work on it. In the meantime, it offers the opportunity to change the voltage by saying the frequency automatically or manually to its new drivers.

So we can lower the temperature of our GPU with one click

To accomplish this we will need to have the latest AMD drivers installed on our PC, where after restarting the system we will be able to log in according to the driver. Once inside we will go to the "Performance" tab, located at the top of the window.

On this screen we will see all the navigation settings allowed by the driver, but this is not where we want to go. You will need to click the "fix" button.

If you are inside as shown in the picture, you will need to click the «low GPU voltage» button.

Pressing it will have a small pop-up window in the center that will notify us of the problems of doing this kind of practice, because although the adjustment should be right, the outputs can be properly called, giving the system uncertainty instead.

To receive this message, the process will start by displaying the following download screen.

We will have to wait only for the electrical signal which means it will disappear to give us the final result.

In our case, the automatic adjustment lowers the voltage to 984 mV, something we can't see until we put the GPU under load or pressure. In any case, the profile will work as can be seen in the following image.

The reduced voltage will only be applied to the load, to keep the idle voltage unchanged

If we go into any game or test and monitor the parameters of our GPU, we'll see that the actual applied voltage does not exceed what the driver itself has set for us, no matter which software we are testing.

As we can see, the maximum capacity of the card now stays at 0.987 volts, which does not affect the final frequency, since the stock reaches the same value.

The voltage difference in our case is 0.05 volts, which means 9 watts for less consumption and lower temperatures for two levels are replaced by water blocks.

In addition, frequency can equate additional MHz with everything being said, always talking about stock. Obviously, the difference in performance is ignored, if not ignored, because we're talking less than 1% in almost all cases.

It is therefore a good measure to help keep the use and temperature at bay easy.
