If you frequently scroll through Instagram endlessly, you will almost certainly have come across a really catchy song that you want to add to your own playlist. Previously, you had to find the name and do a manual search on Spotify – but that ends now.
Spotify has teamed up with Instagram on a new feature that makes integrating songs from your feed into your playlist easier than ever: it’s just a single click and you won’t even need to leave the application.
Here’s how to do it. You can also learn about Spotify’s new offline feature and our simple tip to avoid annoying YouTube ads.
How to Save Songs from Instagram to Your Spotify Playlist
Spotify told us that this feature was rolling out globally starting October 17. We have successfully tested it on iPhone and Android in the UK.
If you can’t see the feature yet, make sure your apps are up to date or wait a few days to see if it becomes available.
Here are the steps to follow, accompanied by screenshots:
- Make sure the Instagram and Spotify apps are up to date by checking the App Store
- When you’re scrolling through Instagram, tap a song you like
- You will then be redirected to the audio page of the song
- Tap the “Add” button on the right side with the Spotify logo (next to the playback controls and below the big “Use Audio” button).
- The first time you do this, it will ask you to link your Spotify account
- Click “Accept” on the terms and conditions – you can revoke access at any time in your settings
- Newly recorded tracks can be found in your “Liked Songs” playlist and under “Your Library” in Spotify.
- Once accounts are linked, the “Add” button simply saves songs with one click.

Note that this feature does not work for all audio files, especially if they are original (like dialogue or an edited song). If you see an artist and a song pop up, it’s like you’re being supported.
Songs that aren’t will simply not show the “Add” button.
