In addition, it is not necessary to have it next to our main equipment since we can have it in any other room where it does not interfere, provided that it has a connection to the local network. Unless we are traveling and need to access its content via the Internet, the only purpose of having it on 24 hours a day is to consume electricity, so it is advisable to turn it off at night .
Regardless of the operating system we use on our server, we can schedule its operation to turn off at a certain time every day by following the steps given below.
Schedule a PC to Shut Down Automatically
If we want to turn off a PC at a certain time, on the Internet we can find a large number of applications that allow us to configure the shutdown time. We can also use the Windows Shutdown program. However, in both methods it is necessary to interact with the computer to schedule the shutdown.
To program a device to turn off every day at a specific time without us having to do anything, there is no need to install third-party applications, just use the Task SchedulerThis application is available on Windows 10 and Windows 11, both in the Home and Pro versions.
We can run this program using the Windows search box. Once the application is open, from the main panel we go to the left column and click on Create a basic task.
Next, we need to establish the name that the action will have and a brief description. This way, if we have more programming enabled, we can identify it quickly and easily. Once we enter the name and description, click Next.
In the next window we can define when we want this action to be performed. In this case we need to set the option Every day and click Following.
In the next window we need to establish when we want this task to start working. The date displayed is the one from which we can use the time when we want the PC to turn off, which could be the next day. We also need to specify what time we want the automatic shutdown action to be performed. In the section Repeat eachwe leave for 1 day and click on Next.
In the next window we must establish what action we want to do. In this case we are going to select a program and we are going to use the shutdown application that we talked about above.
Then, in the section Program a script, click Browse and navigate to the System32 directory where the Shutdown application is located. There is no need to add any additional arguments since the main function of this application is to shut down the PC.
To confirm and review the action we created, click Next and a full summary will be displayed.
From this moment on, every day at the same time, the equipment will automatically turn off without us having to do anything else. What we can also do is configure the equipment to turn on automatically every day.
