After months of fishing, shaking trees and endless demands for payment from Tom Nook, the wait is finally over. Animal Crossing: New horizons has finally made island transfers common, which means you can transfer all of your save data to another Nintendo Switch console.
This is especially important news if you’re a Switch Lite gamer who wants to play the game on the main console for some reason – perhaps if you want to stream the game to Twitch.
This feature is paired with another seasonal game update, this time for winter, which also grants players access to two new game events (Turkey Day and Toy Day), new hairstyles, reactions, gameplay and expansion of the game. storage capacity.

How to complete an entire island transfer in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
If you want to transfer all of your saved data including the whole island, villagers, custom amenities and house, this is the option to go. Please note that once you transfer your island to your new console, you will no longer be able to play on your old one.
Here’s how to transfer your entire island:
- You will have access to both Nintendo Switch consoles: the old one you are playing on and the new one you want to transfer to.
- Install Animal Crossing: New Horizons on both consoles
- Make sure your consoles have a working internet connection
- Transfer your Nintendo profile data to the new console
- Go to Nintendo eShop, purchase the free Island Transfer Tool app and open it on both consoles
- Follow the onscreen instructions until you select “Let’s Get Started”.
- In the current console, select and confirm as “Source”.
- In the new console, select and confirm as “Goal”, then select “Continue”.
- Select “Transfer data” then “Continue”.
- Once the transfer is complete, you will be notified on both consoles and the save data on your old console will be erased.
- You can now play Animal Crossing on your new console
You can read more instructions on the Nintendo website, which is useful if you have multiple Animal Crossing players in your home.
How to do a resident move (solo transfer) in Animal Crossing New Horizons
If you want to move a single player (a representative of the island, not a villager) to another island, along with their house and items, then this is the best option. Note that Island representatives cannot move, only additional players.
If they switch to a game without save data, the player will move to a new island, and it will take a few days for their house to move. However, if the device has save data, the island representative will move to the isl and as an additional player and their house will move immediately.
Here’s the way to transfer individual players to Animal Crossing:
- You will have access to both Nintendo Switch consoles: the old one you are playing on and the new one you want to transfer to.
- Install Animal Crossing: New Horizons on both consoles
- Make sure your consoles have a working internet connection
- Transfer your Nintendo profile data to the new console
- Head to the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Settings home screen by selecting the minus button on your joy-con / keyboard
- Select “Move to New Island” then “Move Off Island” or “Move to Another Resident”, depending on who you are moving to.
- Confirm and click until you select “Yes, I’m done”.
- In the new console, open Animal Crossing: New Horizons with the user profile you transferred
- At the request of Timmy and Tommy, select the following: “I’m moving”> “Yes I have”> “Start process” and confirm the resident and island
- On the original console, select “Let’s go!” to confirm the move.
- Once the transfer is complete, you can choose where you want the resident to live on the island
How to save your island online and restore your game data
If you lose or damage the Nintendo Switch, you can save your island online to move it to another console. This feature has been available for several months now, but it is not the same as a standard island transfer as it is strictly reserved for those with a bad or missing console.
To make a backup of your island, go to ‘Settings’ on the home screen of Animal Crossing New Horizons and select “Island Backup”.
You will need internet access to save the island and install the latest game update (1.4.0 or later).
If you need to restore your island this way, here are the steps to take:
