There are times when for some reason you need to be able to turn on your pc alternatively, and that includes without pressing the power button on the box. have the base plate you have, there is a method with which you can turn on the PC without having to press any button, and in this article we are going to tell you how.
It could be that the power button on your PC case has stopped working, or it could be that your hardware is just “airing up” because you’re running tests or diagnostics. Either way, below you’ll learn how to power up your PC directly from the motherboard and without the need for any special tools or frills.
This is how your PC powers up from the motherboard
Many modern motherboards already incorporate a button on the PCB itself which will allow you to power on the PC directly from there, so if your motherboard is one of these you won’t need to do more than press this button. However, not all motherboards have this extra (usually only mid-range and above), but even if you have a relatively old PC, you can do it using the method that we are going to explain to you next.
To do this, you must have a flat screwdriver small or medium in size, and you need to locate the connectors on the front panel of the motherboard, which are usually located in the lower right area of the board itself, very close to the edge, and identified as F_PANEL. This is a series of pins where one normally connects the front panel of the case, which includes wires for power on, reset, status lights or piezo speaker.
Normally these pins are only touched when you build the PC from scratch, and they stay with the cables attached forever; however, we are researching other ways to turn on your PC when you don’t want or can’t use the button on the box, so it’s time to put them back into use.
First of all, you have to know that the equipment must be plugged in and the power turned on, because what we are going to do is make it turn on as if we were pressing the button. You need to locate the two pins labeled PWR_BTN oh PWR_SW, and if they have the cable connected, you need to unplug it. Then simply position the flat screwdriver by holding it by the plastic part of the handle, so that its end touches the two pins simultaneously.
By doing so, we will have caused a closure of the circuit and the PC will turn on in the same way as if we had pressed the button. Do not worry, no spark will be caused there is also no risk of electrocution (but still better to do it very carefully just in case). Because? Normally you have the cable that goes to the power button of the box connected to these two pins, and when you press the power button what is precisely caused is a circuit closure… putting the screwdriver and by “joining” these two pins, we will do the exact same thing.
