How to use Google Assistant to unlock your phone

Assistant, Google, phone, Unlock

Thanks to Google Assistant you can unlock your Android phone without touching it. This can be very helpful in many situations: controlling your music while cooking, replying to a message while driving, or keeping your hands free while performing any type of work.

So as you can see, it is a very useful job that is often overlooked. However, most Android smartphones can use Google Assistant.

Although it is a service that can be activated in the ‘Settings’ of the phone, it can be complicated at first, in addition, it should be considered that this function has some limitations.

However, if you are interested in being able to unlock your Android phone using Google Assistant, keep reading!

Check if your phone has a Google Assistant

If your phone is running Android version 7 (Nougat) or another new iteration, you may already have a Google Assistant on your device.

Any previous program (up to 5.0 Lollipop) will be able to download and install the free file system for Google Assistant from Google Play Store.

You will also need to make sure that the Google search app reaches at least 6.13 version and that the ‘Google Play Services’ app is also updated.

A quick look at the Google Play Store, tapping the three lines in the top left corner and selecting ‘My Apps and Games’ will let you know if there are any updates available.

After checking all of the above, you can try using the Wizard. For devices that use the standard version of Android (Pixel 2, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Android One, and so on), you can press and hold the ‘Home’ button to run the app.

Alternatively, you can access the apps menu and click on the ‘Google Assistant’ app icon.

If this doesn’t work, you may need to enable the app, which can be done by opening the Google app, by tapping the three-line icon (Menu), and selecting ‘Setting’ then in the section ‘Google Assistant’, by pressing ‘Settings’ and then selecting ‘Carry out’.

You will be asked to prepare the voice recognition function again ‘OK Google’ kane. When you’re done, you should know that ‘Ok Google’ will open the app.

Unlock your phone with Google Assistant

To activate voice activation feature, go to ‘Settings> Google> Search, Assistant and Voice> Settings’, select a tab ‘Helper’ then scroll down until you find a category marked as Device. and helper ‘.

In that section you should see a list of devices, in case you have more than one associated with your Google Account. Click on ‘phone’.

You will now be taken to a page where you can configure voice control function. Make sure Google Assistant is running. Next, look at the ‘Get help with Voice Match’ section and enable ‘Open with Voice Match’.

You will probably be asked for an unlock password to use this option.

The unlock option will only be available if your phone already has a passcode / pattern / lock set for fingerprints.

When you’re done, you can tap the phone’s power button to lock it, then say ‘OK Google’ to unlock it again.

Does the Google Assistant Work?

To be honest, we got mixed results when we used this option on different Android phones. For example, it works on the Pixel 3 XL, activates this device and allows us to check our calendar and weather, but tells us that we will have to turn on the phone in order to use features like ‘Maps’.

Our OnePlus 6T allowed full access to all functions by voice command, but when we tried the same with our Nokia 6.1 (Android One) phone we were unable to unlock the phone.

We have adjusted the settings as best we can on all devices, but they do not seem to install them differently. We hope that the person on your phone will respond by listening to the instructions spoken.
