The PS4 is a console which was released in stores in November 2013 and which in 2016, it received the official visit of virtual reality. PS VR that revolutionized the panorama of video games for consoles by bringing a technology that at the time seemed on the verge of conquering the world. So if you were one of those who bought these glasses and you no longer use them, we are going to tell you how to use your PS Camera with your PC, telework, go live or whatever you want.
PS Camera version 2
First of all, it should be noted that this little tutorial (if we can call it that) is for version 2 of the PS Camera, one that was released to work expressly with PS VR. Before, with the launch of the PS4, Sony released another model that was considered the first version, which is not compatible with virtual reality glasses. Well, once it’s clear that you have a PS Camera version 2 collecting dust at home, let’s see how we can hook it up to the computer to bring it back to its former glory.
The first news we have to tell you is that if you try to connect the PS Camera version 2 to your PC you will see that you do not have a compatible port in the form of the connector designed by Sony. Indeed, the Japanese decided at the time (incomprehensibly?) that they were going to use a proprietary design on the console. We don’t know if USB was not an alternative or if they wanted the use of their peripheral to not get out of control anywhere, but the fact is that this model has connections like the ones you have below .
This is leads us to need an adapter that turns this connector into USB-A normal of the many we have scattered around the box of our desktop PC, and even on the laptop. And at this point, you have two options: one is the free one, which will depend on whether you have a PS5 or not. If so, then Sony will provide you with one of these adapters free, since you just have to access the official page (we leave the link below) and request it by entering the serial number of your PS VR, which is printed on the HDMI box. The other alternative, for payment, is to buy it directly on the internet.
You already have cable, now what?
Once you have the standard PS Camera V2 to USB-A adapter cable, the procedure is as easy as any other device you want to connect to the PC, because just plug it in and wait for Windows to recognize it to install generic drivers. From then on, you’ll have a webcam that you had picked up in a drawer, with a resolution of 1280x800p and a quality of 60 fps. Also, keep in mind that it has a built-in microphone which could come in handy if you’re in meetings every day or are one of those who try your luck in streams from Twitch, YouTube, etc.
Here is a link to one of the many deals you can find for the PS Camera V2 Adapter Cable. Take a good look not only at the price, but also at the dates delivery, in case you need to have it as soon as possible. You already know what the rush looks like.
