DC Universe is a service of diffusion entirely dedicated to DC content. On the platform, you can watch exclusive new TV shows, old series and movies, and read digital comics.
The service launched in the US in September 2018, but unfortunately for the rest of the world, it’s only been the US so far, which is a bit of a problem if you’re hoping to watch the exclusive shows from the service.
The first original series, Titans, made its way to Netflix outside of the US, but there’s usually a long gap between its first airing and syndication, and we don’t know for sure what other shows will be coming to Netflix.
Luckily, there’s a way around the corporate region lock, so here’s how to watch Titans, Doom Patrol, and other DC Universe shows and movies from anywhere in the world.
What is the DC Universe?
DC Universe is essentially a rival to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, but that’s limited exclusively to content related to DC’s roster of comic book characters: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and others.
This obviously means it has a narrower range of genres than most other streaming services. diffusion, but DC hopes to make up for it by betting heavily on content dedicated to its genuine fans.
That means an extensive catalog of animated series and movies, from classic Superman originals to Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, and newer shows you won’t be able to see anywhere else, like the aforementioned Titans.
There is also more than things to see. DC offers access to a selection of its catalog of digital comic books, as well as exclusive offers on merchandise, rewards and premium offers, as well as a community section that allows you to connect with fans and the creators of DC.
How much does it cost?
All of this will cost you $7.99 per month – remember this is US only for now – with an annual subscription available for $74.99. However, you have a seven-day free trial.
That’s a bit higher than we perhaps expected, making it comparable in price to Netflix and Amazon Prime – despite their larger catalogs – and meaning you’ll probably have to be a pretty serious DC fan. to consider a long-term subscription.
DC Original Series moves to HBO Max
Unfortunately, the DC Universe will no longer be home to the original series. The Hollywood Reporter reported that all DC Universe series, including Titans, Doom Patrol and Harley Quinn, will move to HBO Max due to budget cuts from Warner Bros.
How to watch from outside the US
Although DC Universe was released in the United States, it’s not yet officially available elsewhere, likely due to the complexity of international licensing. While we’re sure the company plans to launch the service internationally (perhaps with a slightly different catalog in some regions), there are no official plans yet.
If you visit the DC Universe website from outside the United States, you will see the message “Sorry, this service is only available in the United States”. We’ll let you know when it’s available in your area.”
This poses a problem for fans from Europe or any other country who wish to use the service, as there is no official way to access it outside of the United States, even if you are an American user on vacation who has already have an account. Luckily, that should be possible: you’ll just need a VPN to do it.
We’ve tested a bunch of VPNs, and our usual recommendation is NordVPN, but check out our guide to the best VPNs for video streaming for other options. All you have to do is create an account, install the Software and configure it to connect to a server in the United States.
Once done, you can visit the DC Universe website and it will think you are in the US, allowing you to register, although you may need a fake US address to pass the registration process .
For those living outside of the United States, be sure to choose the PayPal payment option. If you wish to register with a credit/debit card, you will need a payment card linked to a US bank account, otherwise you will be denied access.
Of course, that won’t be a problem if you’re a US user who has an account and just wants to watch in another country – if that’s the case for you, a VPN is all you need.
Don’t forget that you’ll have to keep using the VPN every time you want to use the service, and you’ll have to make sure it’s installed on the device you’re using to stream, so if you want to watch it from the iOS , you will also need to install your chosen VPN on your iPad or iPhone.
Finally, it should be noted that, as with any attempt to circumvent a streaming service’s geo-blocking, this will be against DC Universe’s terms and conditions.
It’s not illegal on your part, but the company would have the right to revoke your account, or could simply block your access if you get caught, so proceed with caution.
What are the exclusive programs?
If you’re going to pay $7.99 plus the cost of a VPN, you’ll want to make sure you’re getting what you pay for. And while DC Universe has some great bits of DC’s catalog of TV shows, movies and comics, it’s probably the new exclusives that grab the most because they’re the stuff you absolutely need to watch DC. Universe.
The first major show to launch on the service was Titans, a dark and gritty version of the Teen Titans team, led by Batman’s sidekick Robin. It launched on October 12, with new episodes weekly for 12 weeks, rather than the single binge setup favored by Netflix and Amazon.
Netflix released Titans globally outside of the US and China, but there was a delay before it hit other regions. We also don’t know whether or not Netflix will have the rights to other DC Universe content.
Swamp Thing aired just one season on the service before it was canceled, which isn’t particularly promising either, but Doom Patrol is confirmed for a second season – despite being a co-production with HBO Max, and the episodes will span both seasons. streaming platforms simultaneously.
