HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless gaming headphones review

HyperX is one of the brands video game the most popular today. When we are going to choose a device Game, Whether it’s a keyboard, mouse, or headset, I’m generally clear: HyperX and Razer are the brands that typically grab my attention.

I have had the opportunity to try several HyperX brand products and the truth is that they never disappoint. It is a solid brand that knows how to offer good quality products.

This time, I spent quite a bit of time testing the HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless, the most recent and wireless version of the Cloud Alpha that we already knew. At the moment there are not too many purchase options in Europe, except for Amazon, where you can buy them from $ 200.

If you are a HyperX fan and want to get this model of wireless headphones playerI recommend that you read my experience with the Cloud Alpha Wireless first.

HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless

Design and build quality

I usually start my Comments speaking of design, since it is what can be seen with the naked eye and also what will attract the attention of many. We are facing headphones prime and it shows in the finish: in matt black and with metallic red details, they offer an elegant style without neglecting aesthetics player.

The padded headband inside is finished with the synthetic leather upper which is stitched with a red thread detail which contributes to that elegance I mentioned in the paragraph above. Like almost all helmets of this type, the headband is adjustable so you can use the size that suits you best.

HyperX

Regarding the headsets, they use a memory foam that will adapt perfectly to your ear. I’ve worn the helmets for hours and at no time are they uncomfortable or heavy, in fact they are quite light. On the back of the helmets we see the brand logo in that characteristic metallic red.

On the left side you can connect the microphone (you can remove it if you don’t need it). The microphone uses a flexible arm that will allow you to position it however you want.

The buttons are physical and there aren’t many of them: just two on the left earcup, one to power on or off and another to mute the mic. Just below is the USB-C input that will charge the headphones when needed (I’ll talk about battery life in the next sections). In the right case, on the contrary, there is only one wheel with which you can adjust the volume.

HyperX

By way of conclusion in this section I can say that the HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless are very beautiful and, although the beauty is subjective and will depend on the tastes of each one, I can assure you that it is very likely that you will like them , at least aesthetically.

Also in terms of sound quality?

Sound quality

So, we already know that we like the HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless aesthetically, but do they also fulfill their function as headphones and do they offer good sound quality?

As always, a brand as solid as HyperX has been able to offer excellent sound quality. It uses DTS spatial audio technology, thanks to which surround sound is achieved that helps you fully immerse yourself in any video game.

DTS sound is understood as an alternative to the famous Dolby Digital: a multi-channel audio system that meets that surround characteristic that I mentioned.

HyperX

It offers an incredible sonic range of 15Hz to 21kHz, that’s more than the human ear (which normally hears between 20Hz and 20kHz) can hear, but thanks to those extra Hz, HyperX manages to project all sounds in an amazing way.

Surely you will use the headphones for your video game sessions, but they are also found more than in any other field: movies, music or just voice audio. Obviously they shine in video games, they allow you to hear in detail any step, shot or movement in your favorite video game. Warhammer 3 with the HyperX lets you hear all the sound of the artillery and weapons you use perfectly, just amazing.

The maximum volume may not be the highest I’ve heard in headphones of this type, but it’s also true that the volume is loud enough (we don’t want to damage our hearing either).

They don’t have ANC, active noise cancellation, but passive cancellation is achieved through the design of the headphones. They catch your ear so well that they will insulate themselves enough to disappear from the outside world. It is true that, if you use them for video games, you will surely use them at home, in a quiet room, which means that in these cases, the ANC technology does not seem to me to be ultra necessary either.

The microphone is also another important element in this type of gaming headset. It is a two-way microphone with noise cancellation that will be able to pick up the voice of the user and isolate it from the ambient noise that may be in the room.

Battery, connectivity and software

One of the main elements of this model is, precisely, that it is headphones wirelessi.e. wireless. I have to admit, I myself was a little averse to using a wireless gaming headset as I didn’t want to worry about charging it. Also, these are headphones that I intend to use only when I play video games, from my office, a place where having them connected by cable is not inconvenient.

So I tried the HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless with the idea that I wanted cable. However, I must say that I hardly had to worry about recharging them and believe me when I tell you that I use them for many, many hours. The headphones are capable of working for 300 hours which is an amazing battery life.

HyperX

You will be able to charge them with a USB-C cable and, above all, you will also be able to use them while they are charging.in that you won’t have to interrupt a game if they suddenly run out of battery.

Regarding the connection it will be necessary to connect a small dongle or a USB-A transmitter for Bluetooth to work. This means that you can use the Cloud Alpha Wireless with computers, PS5 or PS4. You won’t be able to use them on an Xbox, so if you need a helmet compatible with this console, you’ll have to look elsewhere.

Since they only work with this USB transmitter, you won’t be able to use them with your smartphone or other devices that don’t have this type of input. This limits them to what they are: headphones. video game. If you are looking for more versatile helmets that you can use in all stretches and even take it out on the street, you will have to buy another type of headphones.

The app HyperX Ngenuity which you can download as an application for Windows, is the specific application that will allow you to customize the audio of the Cloud Alpha Wireless. Personally, I think the equalizer to be able to adjust the sound is quite a professional setting that you will only want to touch if you are really very demanding with the audio. I think the factory sound settings are quite good. The program will allow you to see the battery or charge percentage if you are charging them at the time, which can be useful.

Price and availability

HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless are available in Amazon Europe for $203.26, with a 12% discount. If you want to spend less money and don’t mind your headphones being wired (or maybe you even prefer it), you have the option of buying the model HyperX Cloud Alpha (no wireless) for $80.99 and MediaMarkt (I couldn’t find this older model on Amazon).

final verdict

HyperX knows how to design devices with gamers in mind. In this case, he updated his HyperX Cloud Alpha by adding the word Wireless, meaning “wireless”. They stand out above all for their incredible autonomy, you will hardly have to worry about recharging them. Its design, elegant and faithful to the aesthetics video game This is also one more point in favor of the Cloud Alpha Wireless.
