We all have a specific opinion about many things in our daily lives, including technology. It also happens to us computer scientists, who often move according to certain beliefs or ideas and from there, we do not move. Something like this happened to me, I had always thought that a gaming laptop It didn’t make sense, but my opinion has changed.
The truth is that we have seen how laptops have evolved a lot until they are compact solutions. Many won’t remember this, but a few years ago ASUS released a laptop that had an extra external cooling system and came with a carrying case. This, fortunately, is far behind thanks to new cooling technologies and reduced consumption.
No opinion is fixed, it’s only a matter of time
I’ve always had desktop computers for gaming and also for working and/or studying. About 6 years ago I bought my first laptop to go to class and study, but it was pretty simple. I bought a Lenovo with an integrated graphics card, which still works perfectly today and is practically like new. Also, I “retired” it in November last year when I bought the new laptop.
At that time, buying a tower was not a viable option due to very specific conditions. But, I wanted something with more or less powerful dedicated graphics so I could play a game. Of course, the job of finding a laptop that would fit into my quotation, who at the time was around 1300 dollars.
We all know that in those days if you needed to buy a computer, whether it was a desktop or a laptop, you had to shell out a lot of money. The truth is that I wanted a laptop with an RTX 3070but it was impossible, the cheapest cost around 1800$so I bought one with an RTX 3060 which cost me 1200 dollars.
I must say that I am delighted with my asus tuff laptopIt’s wonderful that it works perfectly. It is a really very powerful laptop that allows me to move any game and, in addition, I have Ray tracing and DLSS. It is also a very compact solution that takes up little space and that I can take everywhere very comfortably.
One of the things I’ve always hated about laptops is the keyboard, which I’ve always found uncomfortable. Fortunately, this keyboard has high-quality mechanical switches, which is extremely comfortable.
I was a little scared because of a Dell Alienware
A few years ago, I had the opportunity to try a dell alienware gaming laptop. The truth is that my experience with this laptop was by far not the best. If I remember correctly I had an RTX 3080 and a Core i9, it was a very powerful, slim and absurdly loud gaming laptop.
Literally when you were running a benchmark or playing a game it looked like a Boeing 737 will take off in your room. The noise level was pretty beastly, more than I’ve ever heard from a gaming laptop before. Of course, this made me more hesitant than I already had to buy a gaming laptop.
I’m not going to say my ASUS TUF will be the silent paradigm, far from it, but it’s a tolerable level. The thing about this Alienware seemed to me, at first, something absurd and meaningless. But like I said, it was a minimalist build that sought to lighten the weight. This aesthetic design, cooling-wise, was a real chestnut.
