If I had to pick one console I was going to buy with my money, it wouldn’t be a new PlayStation, or even an Xbox, and I’m not talking about the Nintendo Switch either. For me and from personal experience, the best system released in recent times is the Valve console and not because it is based on the PC, but from my own experience. However, it has its chiaroscuro and that’s why I decided to share my steam deck experience
First of all I have to clarify that I don’t own a Steam Deck, my experience with it was recently at a good friend’s house he came to and he let me try it out to enjoy it. Obviously, the first time you see it, it impresses with its size and brings me back to my childhood memories of a classmate owning an Atari Lynx. A console also of enormous size, but simply spectacular from a technical point of view, being a kind of miniature Amiga and therefore also a marvel at the time.
How was my first experience with the Steam Deck?
However, the size of the console hasn’t been a liability for handling and playing for a while, yes, I hold it in a comfortable position to play and don’t tire my hands. Anyway, my Nintendo Switch with long games forces my hands to rest, since Valve’s console is bigger, I guess the same thing would happen to me in less time. However, I didn’t stay with her for long.
As for the screen, that’s a bit disappointing for me, it’s understood that being 1280 x 800 saves power in the graphics chip and makes many games playable without problems at a decent frame rate . Don’t expect too much either, some titles have subtle visual cuts that visually put it below the PS4 and Xbox One. So if you’re a graphics geek, be clear that this isn’t a PC with an RTX or a portable PS5.
What really gives value to the system
It’s the fact of being able to play a certain saga in all its glory on a laptop, believe me it’s worth it and it’s something that nothing has ever been possible to do. Let’s not forget that neither SONY nor Microsoft are officially interested in making a portable console and, on the other hand, some games do not come out or will come out on Nintendo consoles and not because of the policies of the Kyoto company. Honestly, technological progress isn’t always about the most powerful and while the concept can be improved, it’s something that’s been missing for a long time.
It’s worth it? With the short time I had to enjoy it, yes, it tasted little and I must admit that I have been an apathetic person to everything that is happening in the world for a long time. That is to say, almost nothing excited me enough to consider it, save it and buy it. With the Valve console things have changed, unfortunately the economy is to prefer other things more important than a toy. And no, it’s not that my wife won’t let me, it’s that she wants one too and two is a lot.
