It is important to have the drivers or drivers always well updated. They not only carry performance optimization in games, they also fix some errors or issues. Additionally, drivers often come with important (often unannounced) security patches. For these reasons, drivers should be updated when available.
Origin of Intel ARC graphics cards
For many years the integrated graphics (iGPU) in Intel processors left much to be desired. These graphics were underpowered, enabling video and little else. But, for the past few years, they have been working on developing their own graphics cards to compete with AMD and NVIDIA.
We can say that the beginning of the development of these graphics cards begins in November 2017. It was then that it became official that Raja Koduri, which was at the origin of the development of several AMD graphics architectures, signed to Intel for game graphics development. It was a big hit in the industry as Koduri is considered to be the best in graphics.
Koduri signed for Intel with a clear mission to develop graphics cards that match those of NVIDIA and AMD. To do this, Intel provides them with all the necessary resources and contractual freedom. His influence has been so great that he is currently one of the most powerful people in the business.
Development took a long time, and Intel’s first ARC Alchemist graphics are a far cry from the competition. Of course, AMD and NVIDIA have many years of advantage and development.
Features of these new gaming graphics
Intel graphics cards make some adjustments, such as the development of the Vector engine cores. This is the company name for conventional threads. Each of these units processes up to 8 FP32 instructions simultaneously. This is possible thanks to a 256-bit SMID.
These graphics cards include the new Xe Matrix Extensions (XMX Engine). Said XMX has many similarities to NVIDIA Tensor cores. These cores are designed for Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
But also, inside we find the Render slice which is made up of four Xe-Core blocks, each with 64 Vector Engines. Note that each Xe-Core includes 4 ray tracing units, in addition to other items.
At this point we can already see that we are not really talking about a simple GPU, but about a chip made up of different elements.
These graphics cards support real-time light ray tracing technology, also known as Laser trace. For this, specific kernels have been included for the calculation of this complex task.
It is well known that Ray Tracing consumes a lot of resources and generates a performance loss. To compensate for this loss of performance, a technology has been developed Intel XeSS. This technology would be the equivalent of NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR.
Windows Intel ARC Graphics Driver 30.0.101.1736
These new Intel ARC drivers add support for different technologies, as well as support for the new Intel ARC A380M. Additionally, support for Redout 2, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard games on Intel ARC Alchemist is optimized. A list of known and resolved issues is also added.
support
- Intel Arc A380
- Intel Game On Driver support for Redout 2, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard on Intel Arc Alchemist graphics cards
Fixed issues
- Far Cry 6 (DX12)– You may experience texture corruption on water surfaces during gameplay
- Destiny 2 (DX11)– May experience texture corruption on some rocky surfaces during gameplay
- Hell: Bladepoint (DX11)– You may experience app crash or become unresponsive during practice mode
Known issues
- Metro Exodus: Enhanced Edition (DX12), Horizon Zero Dawn (DX12), Call of Duty: Vanguard (DX12), Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint (DX11), Strange Brigade (DX12) and Forza Horizon 5 (DX12) may experience texture corruption during gameplay
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege (DX11)– You may experience texture corruption on the Emerald Plains map – when ultra settings are enabled in-game. A workaround is to select Vulkan API in game settings
- Speeds 5 (DX12)– You may experience app crash, system crash or TDR during gameplay
- Elite Sniper 5– You may experience an application crash on some hybrid graphics system configurations when the Windows “Graphics Performance Preferences” option for the application is not set to “High Performance”
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (DX12)– You may experience app crash during gameplay
- Crossfire– Map textures may not load or load as blank surfaces
- Infinite Halo (DX12): Some objects and textures may turn black and not load. Lighting may also appear blurry or overexposed in menus in multiplayer games
Intel ARC Control
- Checking for driver updates or attempting to install driver updates through Intel Arc Control can sometimes result in a “Driver Installation Failed” message
- Smooth Sync is enabled by default when “Application Choice” is selected in the Frame Delivery settings on the Intel Arc Control game settings page
- The performance tuning page in Intel Arc Control may erroneously appear as visible or configurable on unsupported platforms. When this happens, changing the settings on this page may generate an error message and/or not work.
- Windows UAC prompt may appear when starting Intel Arc Control
