iPhone SE 3 (2022): Premiere, price, specs and rumors

Apple, iPhone, iPhone SE, iPhone SE 2022, iPhone SE 3, premiere, price, Rumors, Smart phones, specs

The iPhone SE (2020) is surely one of the best value for money products in the entire Apple catalog, rivaled only by the 10.2-inch iPad (2021).

But do those in Cupertino plan to stop updating the iPhone SE sporadically and do it more regularly? Back to the rumors circulating about the third generation of the iPhone SE.

When will the iPhone SE 3 be released?

The iPhone SE updates haven’t been exactly predictable. The original iPhone SE arrived in March 2016, and aside from a storage boost in March 2017, it lasted four years without an update.

In fact, Apple pulled the iPhone SE from the market in 2018, leading many to suspect that the cheaper iPhone had come to an end.

But the arrival of the iPhone SE (2020) in April 2020 was a very pleasant surprise and showed that Apple may have realized the need for a more affordable option in its catalog.

To get an idea, these are the release dates of previous iPhone SE models:

  • iPhone SE (16GB and 64GB models): March 31, 2016
  • iPhone SE (32GB and 64GB models): March 24, 2017
  • iPhone SE (2020): April 24, 2020

JP Morgan supply chain analyst William Yang once suggested that the new iPhone might not arrive until the first half of 2022.

This was confirmed by a report from DigiTimes July 2021, which also hinted that Apple was gearing up to launch the next-generation iPhone SE in the first half of 2022, while trend strength I think it will arrive before March.

This agrees with most reports of Bloombergwhose sources suggest the iPhone SE could appear alongside the iPad Air 5 at an event on March 8, 2022. This has already been confirmed by Apple itself.

Since the rumors coincide perfectly with the date confirmed by Apple for its next event, it seems quite likely that the third generation iPhone SE will be presented this same March 8 and that it will go on sale soon after.

How much will the iPhone SE (2022) cost?

We don’t think the price of the new iPhone SE is too far off from the current price, as the way Apple structures the prices of its various models works in such a way that the budget they cater to is very marked.

However, there is some disagreement among analysts on the expected prices. According to analyst John Donovan, the new iPhone SE could cost $300 at launch, down $99 from its predecessor.

However, analyst Daniel Ives believes that Apple will maintain the same base price of $399, although he doesn’t completely rule out a price drop. In Europe it would be $489 and in Mexico $10,999.

Here is the price of the models currently on sale:

  • iPhone SE: $489 / $10,999
  • iPhone 11: $589 / $12,999
  • iPhone 12 mini: $689 / $14,999
  • iPhone 12: $809 / $17,999
  • iPhone 13 mini: $809 / $17,999
  • iPhone 13: $909 / $20,999
  • iPhone 13 Pro: $1,159 / $25,999
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max: $1,259 / $28,999

So the current iPhone SE (2020) starts at $489 / $10,999, and it looks like its successor will cost the same (or maybe a little less).

iPhone SE 3 Rumors

What new features will we see in the iPhone SE (2022)?

Since Apple has yet to confirm the existence of a new iPhone SE, nothing is confirmed as to what features it will have. Obviously, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any rumors and that’s all it could bring.

5G

The most obvious would be to integrate 5G connectivity. The first iPhones to add it were the 2020 iPhones 12 and then the 2021 iPhones 13.

It’s something we’ve seen on a number of Android phones as well, including models similarly priced to the iPhone SE 2020 like the OnePlus Nord, Motorola Edge and Realme 7 5G, once among the best cheap 5G phones around.

A report of Macotakaraan Apple-focused Japanese website, backed by a history of accurate Apple predictions.

trend strength also believes that 5G is on the way, suggesting that the third-generation iPhone SE could serve as a tool for Apple to establish itself in the market. smart phones mid-range 5G.

Apple leaker @Dylandkt also thinks 5G connectivity is imminent, along with a slight upgrade to other specs.

However, this is not definitive, since the iPhone 11 is still in the current catalog, above the iPhone SE, and does not offer 5G connectivity.

A15 Bionic chip

What surprised us the most about the iPhone SE (2020) is that it received the same A13 Bionic chip as the iPhone 11, the flagships of the time. If Apple follows suit and releases an update to the iPhone SE in 2022, it could also feature the iPhone 13 chip, the A15 Bionic.

If it doesn’t turn out that way, it wouldn’t be a disaster either, because the A13 is still a very fast processor. However, everything indicates that it will take over the pattern of the iPhone SE (2020).

JP Morgan analyst William Yang thinks so and, in a note to investors, suggested that the next generation iPhone SE will have a chipset update. Macotakara goes even further and suggests that it will feature the A15 Bionic.

New design

The iPhone SE may not have received a design change until 2020, taking on the look of the iPhone 8 and its predecessors, but there’s speculation that Apple could repeat it with the new model.

Opting for the roomier case of the iPhone XR or iPhone 11 would mean Apple could ditch Touch ID and bring full screen to its most affordable model.

Face ID is already well established, so the price of its build and parts should have come down enough to make it viable on a cheaper device. In addition, to use the frame of the iPhone XR or 11, it would be enough to update its interior.

However, Apple leaker @Dylandkt suggested in early 2021 that the iPhone SE would have a fingerprint scanner on the power button (like the iPad Air) instead of including Face ID. He also suggested a design similar to the iPhone 11 but with a smaller screen.

A year later, in January 2022, the lessor claimed that this redesign would have been delayed until 2024, and that the 2022 model will feature “the same design as the 2020 model”.

This coincides with the Japanese publication specializing in Apple Macotakarawhich also hints that the next iPhone SE will have the same design as the current model, complete with a Home button and Touch ID.

Analyst Ross Young was the latest to predict what the iPhone SE will look like, also pointing to a specs upgrade rather than a redesign, and even suggesting it’s called the iPhone SE+ 5G and not the iPhone SE+. ‘iPhone SE 3. , it is true that his track record is intact.

Young teases that Apple will launch a 5.7-inch iPhone SE, but not until 2023 or 2024, which means we might have to wait a bit longer to get an iPhone 11-like design on the iPhone model. smartphone cheaper at Apple.

iPhone SE 3 Rumors

night mode

Now that so many rival models have cameras with some sort of night mode, it would make sense for this low-light photography feature to come to the iPhone SE (2022). It is not understood that the current SE does not have it.

Without MagSafe

Although some expected the next generation iPhone SE to support MagSafe wireless technology (available on the latest iPhone models), a report from mac otakra suggests that this will not be the case.

According to this report, the iPhone SE 3 will continue to offer Qi wireless charging, but in this case it will not offer the MagSafe magnetic option.

We’ll update this article as more news comes in, so be sure to check back regularly.
