Interestingly, the issues initially seemed to focus on ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB drives. Currently, we know that this issue affects all types of SSD hard drive users. Note that Microsoft is aware of this issue, it is on the “known issues” list but has not been resolved, to our knowledge.
What a disastrous operating system
The problem comes from Windows 11 Update KB5023706. This update affects the read speed of SSDs, reducing it by half. Obviously, by reducing this parameter, system performance drops significantly. This is especially noticeable in video games.
Microsoft launched oneUpdate Windows 11 Moment 2
Microsoft states:
Copying large files of several gigabytes (GB) may take longer than expected to complete in Windows 11, version 22H2. You are most likely to experience this issue when copying files to Windows 11, version 22H2 from a network share via Server Message Block (SMB), but local file copying may also be affected. be affected by this problem.
Many users are reporting on Reddit that SSD read speed is halved or less. The problem is reported by a user with a Lenovo Legion laptop and the drive ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB. Soon after, he was joined by a user with an HP Omen 16 laptop, who also reported that his computer went from booting up in 14 seconds to booting up in 31 seconds, more than double.
The two users spoke and upon checking the data they detected that they had the Windows 11 Update KB5023706. But now it has also been detected on Team Group A440 Pro 2TB drives. User with this drive says file transfer stops for a few seconds and then resumes.
Is there a fix for SSD problem with Windows 11?
According to Microsoft, you can “mitigate this problem, you can use file copy tools that do not use the cache manager (Buffered I/O)”. Also, they run two command lines to temporarily fix the problem, while they create a final solution.
The commands that “fix” the problem are:
- robocopy \someserversomeshare c:somefolder somefile.img /J
- xcopy \unserverunshare c:unfolder /J
It is clear that Windows 11 is a sloppy and that the updates are a real disaster. As we always say, it is better to wait a few weeks before updating, to see what problems appear. Waiting a little helps us to avoid facing the different problems that may arise.
Microsoft failed miserably with its new operating system as a whole. The restrictions of “compatible” processors and the obligation of TPM 2.0 have generated a lot of discomfort among users. Moreover, this last security element caused chaos among motherboard manufacturers, who did not know that this function would be mandatory and had to hastily explain how to activate it.
