Bending phones have been making progress in developing screen models. On the other hand, laptops of this type have received little attention, at least so far.
This makes some sense: computers have not made the same changes to full-screen devices such as phones, and in the case of laptops, they have been converted to alternate or separate modes 2 of 1 but have the same form factor.
This did not stop the production companies from making a major effort to work out what the new generation of computing devices on different screens could use to adapt to different requirements or contexts. The first one is the Loldvo & # 39; s ThinkPad X1 Fold.
Price and availability
With Lenovo advanced, the ThinkPad X1 Fold is scheduled to go on sale next summer 2020, with a suggested retail price estimated at a base adjustment of $ 2,499.
A great deal of money, however, compared to the prices presented by smartphones with a folding screen, the figure doesn't seem that great in comparison to what it offers.
Keep in mind that it is still possible to market the phone with a wrap screen Samsung Galaxy Fold, and soon Lenovo Motorola Razr, both at prices between $ 1,500 and $ 2,000.
Design and build
From the first moment, Lenovo wanted to make it clear that its laptop will be part of the ThinkPad line of machines designed to be able to withstand the robustness of its components.
So, the wrap screen is a 13.3-inch P-OLED model with multi-layer, flexible plastic top and aluminum foil and carbon fiber bottom that helps reduce scratches or even what can be ripped off
The bezel is wrapped in silicone that allows for better grip, in addition to adding extra protection against collision and dust resistance or exposure to liquids.
On the other side is the hub, with a device similar to the one used in Motorola's Razr, a subsidiary of Lenovo, pressing the rear socket of the body as it rolls.
This allows for maximum rejection to be maintained even though the screen is off, which makes the screen vulnerable and the pen is very difficult to detect with the eyes when fully opened.
We enjoy many other outstanding features on the X1 edge. The outer skin layer is one inch from the edge of the device when closed, but it moves to cover the entire body when exposed.
Undoubtedly a nice and unique touch to this product that is part of the FungaPad family, which also keeps the styled edges in line with easy access when the screen is open, moving away from the edge when closed.
The leather layer is curved as if it were a support, with details on ThinkPad red tones built into the inner layer to hold the machine vertically or horizontally. USB-C ports are at opposite ends so you can use them in any operating mode you make of the machines.
Then comes the keyboard section. Wireless small keyboard with track track Built-in features as standard with the X1 Fold. It is possible to use it remotely on a desktop container configuration, or it can be connected to a magnet in the center of the screen.
This creates a traditional tablet form. Close the phone this way and the keyboard is not easily accessible inside the closed item only, but will be charged wirelessly while it is in place. An engineering job
The result is a very efficient metal finish. Lenovo has done its best to cover as many use cases as possible, with a touch of design that suits each.
In addition, it is very important to provide a rugged device that ensures stability despite using it daily as if it were a smartphone smartphone.
Configuration and software
Since we have a form factor that is closer to a tablet than a traditional PC, it can be overlooked that the X1 Fold works with hardware and software simpler and less powerful than its rivals, but Lenovo has done everything possible to prove that design and performance are not incompatible.
The company has been in some way secure with the processor, in order to ensure good independence times. To do this, it includes Intel Core processor with hybrid technology, which looks similar to Lakefield, but we can't be sure.
As expected, no GPU is mixed with anything, but some of those specifications are about 8 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. The 50 Wh battery should guarantee 11 hours of actual use, with 4G connectivity as standard and 5G possible.
As is ThinkPad, Lenovo is marketed with Windows 10 Pro as usual, but there will be updates to Windows 10X, the next generation of Windows designed specifically for two-screen devices.
In the meantime, Lenovo has incorporated its basic software usage, allowing you to switch between using the screen as the main screen, or setting up software on each part of the dividing screen.
We test our tests to do the job well, but it's small, and you'll also need to adjust the size of the windows when connecting the keyboard, as they do not close the bottom screen and its windows.
The first decision
It has recently made a decision, but the X1 Fold is launching the era of laptops or devices with wrap screens, which show its enormous value in various aspects of daily production.
The fact of incorporating it under the Lenovo ThinkPad family of products speaks volumes about the product's boldness in line with these products with a wide reputation for building quality and durability.
It is a clear sight on the table by Lenovo that it is set to lead this new era of personal computer and big screen device aimed at ensuring full connectivity and usability. We'll see if the market is ready for approval.
