Android and Windows are characterized by operating systems that are very easy to use. They have a user-friendly and simple interface for all kinds of processes. The problem with Linux is that it’s not always that simple and sometimes it takes a little knowledge to enter commands and other more technical aspects.
Too many Linux distros don’t help
Linux is characterized by being a open-source operating system which can be used by anyone. In addition to being used by anyone, anyone can modify it to their liking. The problem is that we have an excess of versions that, on many occasions, generate doubts for users as to which one to choose.
It makes sense for more technical and specific Linux distributions like Arch Linux or specific like Red Hat. The problem arises when we have a multitude of distros for the average user. Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint or elementary OS, are some examples of what we might call, distributions for the end user.
GNU/Linux has the distinction of having a distribution structure similar to a pyramid. At the top we have the “general” code, to name it in some way and on which the distributions are generated. Below are the distributions that take this code and adapt it to their needs in a second layer. Below we have the variants of the distributions that we would have in this second layer.
We see at this point how we have distributions of distributions, which generates doubts in the user. It should be simplified and developers unite to improve and simplify the operation of these operating systems. While linux (their distributions) Do not look like a lot to Windows and Android, Really There is nothing to do. Microsoft will continue to be a giant that doesn’t care about the user.
I’m not saying that all distributions should disappear, but the “merger” of several. I understand there may be Lubutu or Linux Mint, lightweight distros for old computers or with limited resources. It is logical that there is Arch Linux for programmers and developers, Red Hat for servers, as well as other more specific distributions, but There can’t (or shouldn’t) be 20 or more Ubuntu variants that do the same thing.
The lessons that Android leaves us
Few people know but Android is based on Linux. Without going into the technical and other aspects, Google has created its own layer that monetizes and on which it establishes limits. The smartphone or tablet manufacturer may perform cosmetic changesadd or remove default apps and other features, but No perform greatthe code changes.
And yes, although it is based on Linux, companies pay a fee or a license to add it to their smartphones. Red Hat is also a distribution of Paid Linux for Servers and Data Centers. These distros have dedicated developers and have their own built-ins, which, let’s say, are the ones that pay. Come on, that’s a gross simplification to make it understandable.
Android shows us the way. It has an extremely simplified user interface layer which, although it differs in many ways, is quite similar to Windows. The solution is to pay a cheap linux licenseLet’s say between 10-30 dollars or an annual fee of 5-10 dollars. But of course it would be with a Linux distribution for computers.
Tips I sell…
There is one aspect that makes me quite funny about those who praise Linux over Windows. You can use Windows for convenience and nothing happens, maybe you like Linux but for many reasons you switch to Windows. Everyone is free, but you can’t stand in the middle of proclaiming the benefits of Linux and then using Windows.
You can’t say people should use Linux more and switch to Windows for convenience. In the end, you are telling the user who knows less than you to use another operating system that you have stopped using for convenience. We have all kinds of alternative tools to the most popular software on Windows. Also, popular tools for Windows have their version for Linux, so if you go to Windows, you won’t like Linux so much.
I consider Linux to be an excellent operating system, but I don’t use it for practical reasons and that’s normal to say. I think the problem with Linux is the large number of distros, which can confuse the user. It annoys me that if there’s a Windows update pending my computer goes bad, but that’s the price I pay for being lazy. And we can say “switch to Ubuntu”, because the truth is that I am very comfortable with Windows at the moment, despite the fact that sometimes I have the real earrings.
