Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that Max will be coming to Europe from May 21, but the UK is not on the list of countries confirmed to get the platform.
The streaming service, home to blockbusters such as Barbie and acclaimed TV series like House of the Dragon, was rebranded as HBO Max for the first time in the United States in May last year. This was to take into account new content coming from the service merging with Discovery+.
This means users can get Eurosport content through Max, which includes the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics. Discovery+ also offers a host of real-life and unscripted content, such as 90 Day Fiancé and Gold Rush.
Besides Eurosport, international Max plans will also include other TV broadcast offerings such as CNN International in France and Poland, TVN in Poland, TV Norge in Norway, Kanal 5 in Sweden.
On May 21, the service will land in the Nordics, Iberia, and Central and Eastern Europe, launching shortly after in Poland, the Netherlands, France, and Belgium.
The latter two countries have never had HBO Max before, demonstrating Warner’s ambition to grow its global audience.

However, it is not surprising to see the United Kingdom missing from this list. Sky currently has a deal to syndicate content from HBO and Warner through its premium TV packages and Now streaming service.
According to the FT, this agreement will end next year. So it’s possible that Max will still come to the UK in 2025… unless Sky renews its deal, of course.
Here are the plans announced by Warner, which are the same as in America after Max made the Sports add-on a paid add-on for subscribers:
Max Basic with advertising package
The lowest pricing plan includes advertising, supports two devices for simultaneous streaming, and content limited to Full HD resolution.
Maximum standard package
The next plan is ad-free, supports two devices for simultaneous streaming, and content limited to Full HD resolution. This plan also allows up to 30 downloads.
Premium Max plan
The most premium ad-free plan supports four devices simultaneously and streams in 4K with Dolby Atmos. This plan also allows up to 100 downloads.
Max Sports Add-on:
The Sports add-on allows customers to stream events such as Grand Slam tennis, cycling Grand Tours, 24 Hours of Le Mans, live linear networks Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 and much more.
This is sold as an add-on to any base plan, so customers can stream simultaneously to the same number of devices as included in their base plan.
JB Perrette, managing director and president of global streaming and gaming at Warner Bros Discovery, gave the following quote to the FT: “We are at the beginning of the journey. We have various building blocks for where this growth is coming from – the most important is globalization.
Exact pricing will be available in select countries in the coming months. In the United States, the Basic plan with ads costs $9.99 per month, the Standard plan costs $15.99 per month, and the Premium plan costs $19.99 per month. The sports add-on costs an additional $9.99 per month.
Therefore, expect prices to be in line with these numbers unless Max raises prices again.
If you already subscribe to HBO Max in Europe, you don’t need to do anything: the app simply needs to be updated and your viewing history will be transferred.
