Even though the new generation of consoles came out in 2007, 2008 means its consolidation. There have been some great releases, some even considered among the best video games of recent times, with the big studios bringing out the best in themselves. But only a few can win the award for “best”.
The gems that 2008 left us
So, in another of our already characteristic tops, we investigated on the best review site in the world, Metacritic, which are the five best titles released in 2008. That said, let’s start the list.
5. Braid
For fans of puzzle and platform games, this is one of those titles that you have to play at least once in your life. From its different levels and worlds to its graphics, which are still impressive more than 15 years after its release, these are some of the elements that earned it a 93 on Metacritic.
4. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
A saga as legendary as Super Smash Bros. could not be left out. For many, this title for Wii is one of the best in the series, if not the best of all. Hanging out with your friends has never been so much fun. On Metacritic it has a very high score, more precisely a 93. Not bad for fourth place.
3. Metal Gear Solid 4: Patriot Weapons
We don’t think we’re wrong when we say that the Metal Gear Solid saga doesn’t have a single bad game. That said, the fourth installment is one of the most iconic in the saga, and that’s saying a lot considering the history of Snake and company. Incredible action and a sublime story are the pillars that earn it a 94 on Metacritic.
2. LittleBigPlanet
We are the first to never have thought at the time that this nice platformer would become one of the most iconic PlayStation exclusives. Sackboy is part of this select group of great Sony characters alongside Kratos, Nathan Drake or Ellie. His Metacritic score is 95, which gives him the silver medal in the ranking.
1. Grand Theft Auto IV
Ever since GTA III reinvented the franchise, it seems like Rockstar has been unable to make a bad Grand Theft Auto. According to fans of the series, the fourth installment has the best story of all. Niko Bellic is one of the deepest characters in all of video games. He has a 98 on Metacritic, a near-perfect score.
