Technology should consider every little detail to be fully functional, only in this way we can improve in this field. Western Digital made this impression in its purest imagination and explored the limits of current HDDs in one of the most unusual locations in the industry: the gas fury embedded in each hard disk.
Helio: solution without technical problems
For more than 10 years, all technology companies that fully offer HDDs have been looking for ways to achieve greater reliability, greater power and greater performance on their devices.
With Helium concept as a replacement computer for HDD, Western Digital is available reduce gas inactivity played with the machine parts of each disk up to 7 times.
This allowed for more aggression regarding rotation speed, plate capacity and head temperature, but it was one more challenge: the HDD had to be excessive. The leak electricity has been an ongoing problem that the industry has not been able to solve, especially over the years, which has raised the risks of unit or partial breakdowns.
Six years of R&D to fully achieve hermetic HDD
After more than six years of research and development, rigorous tests and studies, Western Digital has the right to publish successfully in early 2013 the first development of helium through HelioSeal.
The patent came after further testing 5,000 units for more than 1,000 hours of use, which provided a total of over 5 million hours of testing where it was found that there is no deterioration in the marking of the units and that the amount of Helium remains completely stable within each HDD.
These hard drives were subjected to extreme temperature tests, pressure, humidity and shock cycles, where all units showed high signal integrity.
What does HelioSeal accomplish, and what are its benefits?
Poor condition within the HDD means that there is less interference in the plates and heads, which are directly linked to better reading and writing, achieving greater quantity and at the same time, a greater number of discs and heads.
In addition, each disk (or plate) rotates easily, producing savings in energy consumption and receiving low temperatures, which when added up to eight of them involves significant improvement.
Low temperature influences simultaneously high disk reliability, which in addition to the individual HDD branding, excludes vents, finding that carbon-like particles in many cities can be injected into hard disk, compromising their performance or compromising your reliability.
In the end, the total weight of the HDD is reduced, since smaller plates are required at the same capacity to increase their mass. At the same time, consumption and temperature are reduced for the same reasons, allowing for a hard disk body and less weight, and improving the former.
This way, Helioseal, is included in all Western HDDs HDDs today, which its competitors need to use in their separate programs given their profitability, which means it will boost the industry.
