Historical romance series are all the rage right now. Bridgerton season 3 became the most-watched series on Netflix after its spring debut, and now Prime Video has a similar series that fans of the genre will love.
My Lady Jane is a feminist reimagining of the story of the Tudor Queen of the Nine Days, Lady Jane Grey. The story is based on the book by Cynthia Hand, Brodie Ashton and Jodi Meadow.
The series is packed with an all-star British cast, steamy scenes, thrilling fights, hilarious storytelling and a modern take on the period – all sprinkled with a touch of fantasy, as the world is filled with shapeshifters.
Critical acclaim and word of mouth have helped the series rise to the second most-watched spot on Prime Video, just behind the flagship series, The Boys. If you’ve been following Jane and Guildford’s story and want to know if there are more series coming, we’ve got you covered.

Will My Lady Jane Return for a Season 2?
Prime Video has not confirmed whether My Lady Jane will return for a second season.. However, the showrunner is certainly willing to do so.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, writer Gemma Burgess gave the following quote:
If we’re lucky enough to get a season 2, then we’re going to explore all of them growing up, moving forward, and figuring out how to survive in a world where Jane is free, but the kingdom isn’t. Because Mary is still on the throne. There’s still a lot of work to do before things get better.
Given the show’s success, a second season wouldn’t be a surprise. Plus, the finale made sure to tie up all the remaining plot threads, like Mary’s terrifying reign and the many secret relationships.
There’s also a chance that Amazon will follow the trajectory of the books, but if so, we’ll be getting a whole new setting and almost certainly a new cast. More on that later.

When could My Lady Jane season 2 be released?
Without confirmation of a second season of My Lady Jane, it is difficult to predict when it might be released.
Filming for the first season began in 2022, and the series finally arrived on Prime Video on June 27, 2024. So, if the production time is the same for a hypothetical season 2, then we probably won’t see My Lady Jane season 2 until 2026 at the earliest.
If Prime Video announces more about the show’s future, we’ll update this article.

What could the plot of My Lady Jane season 2 be about?
The end of Season 2 showed that Jane and Guildford had fled to the countryside after narrowly avoiding execution by Queen Mary. After confessing their love for each other, Guildford willingly changed shape and carried Jane to safety on his back in his horse form.
The final scene shows the couple kissing in the morning sun. This confirms that the Lord’s curse of being a werewolf has been broken and he is now in control of his Aethian nature, rather than transforming every time dawn breaks.
He suggests they travel around the world. Jane, however, acknowledges that as long as Mary is on the throne, she is still needed in England. Guildford vows to stay by her side.
Some plot elements of the book have yet to be explored. For example, Entertainment Weekly points out that in the original story, Jane discovers she is an Ethian, in the form of a ferret.

Executive producer Meredith Glynn gave some ideas of what she would like to see in a next season, telling the Express:
“There are characters in the first season who, without giving away any spoilers, if you know the history of the Tudors, went on to lead tough lives. And then there are characters like Katherine Grey (Isabella Brownson) who had a really tragic life. And it would be great to be able to tell the story of a tragic character. Frances Grey continued to serve Mary’s court, even though Mary had killed her daughter. So there are a lot of different stories that would be really fun to pursue.”
The ending montage also revealed that Bess (the future Queen Elizabeth I in real life) is a fox of Eith, the continuation of Lady Frances and Stan Dudley’s affair, the secret marriage of Lady Katherine Grey and William Seymour, and King Edward VI and Fitz about to sleep with another.
Will Season 2 Adapt the Next Book in the My Lady Jane Series?
The next book in the young adult novel series is titled My Plain Jane and follows a different character: Jane Eyre. Jane and Guildford are not featured in the next book at all.
Therefore, if Prime Video were to follow the original material, we would be treated to an entirely new cast. This seems unlikely, as from the interviews we’ve seen so far, the team is keen to continue the original story.
