On the market we can find a large number of external enclosures to use with any graphics card of our choice and that can be used on almost any PC, mini PC or laptop. But, in addition, some manufacturers are also committed to launching complete eGPUs, that is, case and integrated GPU in the same chassis, another interesting option if we do not have a graphics card to use or if our needs are not very high.
The latest manufacturer to introduce such an eGPU, with a case and an integrated graphics card, is OneXPlayer. This manufacturer has revealed what graphics it will offer us in the OneXGPU 2 model: the Radeon 7800Ma dedicated laptop GPU that sits halfway between the RX 7600M/RX7700M and the RX 7900M.
OneXGPU 2 Specifications
Thanks to OneXPlayer’s announcement, we finally know the specifications of the new RX 7800M. The RX 7800M AMD’s uses Navi 32 and is managed by 12 GB of GDDR memory with a 192-bit interface, for the 16 GB of RX 7900M with 256 bits and 8 GB of RX 7600M with 128 bits.
It features 60 RDNA3 compute units, is compatible with up to 3 displays, and has a maximum TDP of 180W. As for connectivity options, the OneXPlayer eGPU has a USB 3.0 port. USB 4.0, a port OCu Linka port HDMItwo ports DisplayPort2 ports USB 3.0a memory card reader, a port Ethernet and a compartment to add a SSD M2. 2280.
Being an accessory that will be mainly used for playing, it could not be missing RGB lighting at the top, although the manufacturer does not specify whether it can be configured independently via an application.
RX 7800M Performance
To demonstrate the good work of this AMD eGPU, the manufacturer tested its performance in the titles God of War 4 and with Red Dead Redemption 2. Since these are not titles where a very high FPS number is required, as is the case for first and third person shooters, 60 FPS is more than enough.
In the case of God of War 4, with Ultra settings at 2560 x 1600p, more than 60 FPS were obtained on average. With Red Dead Redemption 2, it also reaches a good average of 60 FPS, but with a lower resolution, namely 1920 x 1080p.
With these performance figures, it is clear that the laptops that are coming to market with the RX 7800M seem, at first glance, to be an excellent option to consider if we want to buy a laptop. game, provided they have a contained price, although for now NVIDIA’s RTX 40 dominates the laptop market well above those included in AMD’s RX 7900M.
Pricing and Availability
For now, OneXPlayer has limited itself to announcing this eGPU without establishing a precise release date. We also don’t know what its market price will be, so we’ll have to wait, hopefully, for Gamescom to find out.
