The price of Razer laptops is going to go up, this is the last one we have been able to know from the head of the company, so a company already famous for the high cost of its hardware is going to increase it even more. Is this a maneuver of pure greed or is it due to the current situation in the hardware market?
The problem of the semiconductor shortage is raging. From the world of PC electronics to the automotive world to hardware and we all know what happens when a good becomes scarce, those who demand it are willing to pay more for the product.
The price of Razer laptops will rise
I just had a long meeting to review our line of gaming laptops for next year – it looks like there are significant increases in component costs etc. @Razer
Blade) next year.– Min-Liang Tan (@minliangtan) November 30, 2021
Such a statement was made by Min-Liang Tan, CEO and therefore senior man of Razer, on his verified Twitter account.
I just had a long discussion to revisit our line of laptops for next year, it looks like there are some significant increases in component costs and we’ll see. an increase in the price of gaming laptops, including the Razer Blades, for next year.
Considering the current situation of component shortage, this should come as no surprise to us, as we have to take into account that a laptop is not just made up of CPU, GPU, RAM, SSD and all the parts that we usually deal on a daily basis, but also various digital and analog electronic components which are crucial for the system and which are affected by the shortage.
There is a very basic rule in economics, if a product is scarce and not a basic necessity, then its price ends up going up due to these two factors. So it shouldn’t surprise us that the prices of gaming laptops are increasing, moreover, a good part of these components are used in other markets which tend to have the preference in terms of supply.
It must be taken into account that this will not be the only brand affected, as they all use the same components, so we can generalize for the rest of the brands and conclude that we will have a general increase in prices.
A before and an after in the hardware
Many companies will use a specific solution when creating their new systems and it is none other than the integration of some of the functionalities that few parts had until now in one. It’s a double-edged sword for consumers, but an advantage for manufacturers. The reason is simple: simplifying the components in the hardware ends up reducing the problem of shortage of some of them, however, at the same time reducing the ability to be repaired by a third party.
Doing the industrial design of a computer at these levels goes beyond the placement of the basic components, it is about designing the PCB, the analog circuits and even new chips that a priori did not exist. Something very few companies can do that will most likely reduce many laptop lines.
Either way, with this announcement, the Razer CEO is ensuring that people are buying Razer laptops before the advertised price increase occurs. So, in our turn, we are Min-Liang Tan’s tactic to increase sales of the Razer Blade for these Christmas dates.
