The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which lasted until late fall 2023, interrupted work on the sets of several films and series. One of them was the story of a teenage goth girl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Addams.
Wednesday, the iconic spinoff of The Addams Family, was one of the biggest things on Netflix when it debuted, triumphantly joining Stranger Things and Squid Game. Given this, fans have been intrigued by the prolonged silence regarding season 2. There was even speculation that another streaming platform could acquire the series.
Netflix has finally broken the silence and renewed the series for a second season. However, many questions remain regarding the production – here’s what we know.
When could Wednesday season 2 be released?
Wednesday’s second season was rumored to arrive in 2024. However, production was halted after WGA and SAG-AFTRA debuted in 2023.
According to Deadline, work will resume in April 2024 and filming will take place in Ireland. So, everything indicates that Wednesday season 2 will not debut on Netflix. until 2025.
This is further supported by Netflix’s 2024 list, from which Wednesday was absent.

Wednesday Season 2 Plot
The season 1 finale explained the mystery of Goody Addams, Joseph Crackstone, and the hidden forest creature. However, not all the threads were tied together. In the last scene, Wednesday receives an anonymous message and a series of disturbing photos. Clearly, someone else is lurking around the school, unhappy with Wednesday’s presence. Does this have anything to do with the case of Marilyn Thornhill? And who is the harasser?
Speaking of Marilyn, her fate is undecided, as is that of Tyler, who escapes from the prison transport. Will he get revenge on Wednesday? Or can it undergo a positive change?
The first season also introduced a mysterious cult that Bianca’s mother belongs to. This dangerous organization will undoubtedly be one of the critical storylines in future episodes.

There are still many more questions that need to be answered. Who will lead Nevermore Academy after Larissa Weems’ death? And Wednesday and Xavier’s romance? How will the relationship between Wednesday and Morticia unfold?
As showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar said in an interview with Hollywood Reporter:
We want to kind of explore and kind of complicate all of these relationships going forward. The school was closed when they left, which gave us the most opportunities for season two, and I think that’s something we’re excited to explore. For us, the show is also really about this female friendship, with Wednesday and Enid really being at the center of it. The fact that they really connected with the audience was really rewarding. So, we’re excited to explore, now that Wednesday has dipped its toe into the pool of friendship, what will it look like? It’s like she gave a hug. That was his big arc of the season, right? So it’s like now we’re doing this. Then the other thing that’s really interesting is continuing to explore the Wednesday-Morticia mother-daughter relationship, which, now that Morticia knows the power, it’s given her sort of an idea of how that’s going to go. How will their relationship evolve?
Interestingly, during a conversation on Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Jenna Ortega said that Wednesday’s Season 2 might abandon teen drama themes and focus on horror instead:
We decided to lean a little more into the horror aspect of the show because it’s so light-hearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take too seriously. We’re dropping all love interests for Wednesday, which is really awesome.
