Competing with big tech companies is not an easy task, as there are a series of limitations that prevent most countries and newly established companies from competing with big developers, and not in economic terms, but rather in terms of intellectual property. However, the Russian president would seek to enter this market with the creation of his own consoles, as well as a platform similar to that created by Valve.
Russia seeks to create its own hardware
As we know, many countries are looking to get directly involved in the video game market, since this type of entertainment generates significant profits every year for the majority of places selling these products. Generally speaking, some of the countries that generate the most money in this market are those in which the presence is significant, as you would expect, these are the majority of rich countries in Europe, states -United and major countries of the world. The eastern area involved in this market is China, Japan and South Korea.
This is why it is not strange that Russia want to create their own consoles and platforms, because if they were able to create real competition they would not be able to improve their economics, but they would also be able to do without most Western products. And as we know, two years after the start of the war against Ukraine, the country led by Vladimir Putin has been sanctioned with a large number of restrictions that affect all sectors, including video games and computer hardware for himself.
In this way, this strategic movement would seek more than to compete with what other countries offer, but rather to separate itself from the development offered by countries like the United States or those in the European zone. Although, as we know, the resources currently available to the country are extremely limited, taking into account that the conflict developed against Ukraine is depleting both economic resources and the population.
Can Russia really compete in this market?
Normally, we know that there is not really a country that can consider competing in this market currently dominated by China, the United States, South Korea, Japan and the United Kingdom, and in the hardware and video game market, it is necessary to create something innovative and that people really like for it to be considered as an option, and ultimately it requires an extremely high investment, of which we do not know for the moment if Russia may be permitted.
Also considering the most successful games in this country, it would be difficult to try to create direct competition, for example against Steamsince ultimately one of the greatest successes in video games in Russia, Counter-Strike) belongs to this company. On the other hand, when it comes to the second most successful genre in this region, they might have a chance, and MMOs are making a splash in the Slavic country.
