However, long before they arrived on the market, it was already known that their gaming performance still a long way to go. It is important to note that these processors are not designed to run games, although they do so more or less smoothly at 1080 without much graphics load.
This is logical since this processor is not designed to perform this type of tasks, however, this does not mean that Qualcomm has not continued working to improve this section, both through hardware and software.
Qualcomm Resizing Technology
Qualcomm, like Nvidia, AMD and even Sony on PlayStation, have technology responsible for increasing and improving the resolution of games. Qualcomm’s technology is called Super resolution of Snapdragon gaming (GSR) and was presented in June 2023 focused on mobile devices with the foray into the PC in mind.
While the first generation of ARM processors for laptops is already available on the market, as we mentioned above, Qualcomm has just presented the second generation of this technology to improve graphics quality and performance, but without neglecting duration of the battery.
The solution of climbed Qualcomm’s temporary Adreno Charts offers a large number of improvements compared to the first. The first is the ability to resize images in 1080 resolution in 4K with a level of detail that has nothing to envy of NVIDIA’s DLSS technology, the best of anything that can be found on the market and which is even above the PSSR, available on the PS5 Pro.
GSR2 uses color samples from pre-rendered frames to achieve a higher quality final image than the first generation GSR that relied solely on buffered frames.
But it also improves the number of frames which is capable of displaying itself to provide a smoother sensation when gaming, generating additional images that are automatically interspersed, adding to those already established in the game settings.
Regarding battery life improvements, Qualcomm did not go into detail, because it is difficult to quantify since each game, depending on the configuration and the power it needs to move, has one consumption and another.
Qualcomm provides all game developers for computers with ARM architecture with the tools necessary to implement the second generation of Super Resolution 2 gamevia this link to the GitHub page.
It will be necessary to wait a few months for the developers to update and/or adopt the resizing technology from Qualcomm both in mobile games and in those that arrive already adapted to be compatible with the ARM architecture on PC.
