There are many configurations of PC that we can currently find, and among them there is one that allows us to avoid the noise generated by the fans, the configurations fanless, which completely eliminates these components. These models have a completely passive heat sink configuration and are suitable for people who do not want to have a computer that does not generate any type of noise, but their drawbacks are quite significant.
The advantage that desktop computers offer is the possibility of configuring them as we want, and it is increasingly common to see all kinds of components that allow us to have a PC as personalized as possible. Although not all types of computers that we can find are the best, and the advantages that they can offer on the one hand can be taken away from us on the other, and in the case of fanless computers, they have many more disadvantages.
The weak point of fanless PCs
When we talk about computers, we always have to differentiate between all the types that exist, and in the end a laptop is not the same as a tower computer, since the format changes a lot. In the different computer formats that we have, there are configurations that allow us to use completely passive cooling, but the biggest problem of these computers is that they do not offer very high performance, since as we can imagine, the cooling is not the same since The heat generated by the components inside the case is not completely eliminated.
Using fans allows hot air to escape from the case, allowing the main hardware elements to operate at higher performance since they can be configured with higher power consumption, while configurations that do not include fans generally have lower consumption. Passive heat sinks have an advantage in much smaller computers and even in other types of more portable devices, but they are obviously not a good idea for others that have much higher powers.
As you can imagine, in most mini PC we can find a cooling system of this type, that is, several models of miniature computers that currently exist are fanless since they have a series of passive heat sinks that reduce the temperature of the components. But this only applies to models that integrate less powerful processors, since if we want to buy one with a more powerful processor, they usually have an internal fan to eliminate much of the heat.
More than enough reason not to buy one (if you want performance)
One of the things that is most remembered is that in the end, the type of computer we buy depends a lot on the use, those that are fanless They can be useful for people who don’t want noise but don’t mind sacrificing some of the power of the PC for that. It is possible to set up a configuration that even allows us to play some games on a computer without any type of fan, but in the end it would be necessary to eliminate some fairly important components such as the graphics card or use the iGPU of the processor, although if we do this, its temperature will obviously increase a little.
On top of that, we obviously couldn’t fit in some of the processors that have the best integrated graphics, so in general, this isn’t a type of configuration that we can use for tasks that require higher than normal performance.
