It was one of the big announcements we saw in the first half of the year, specifically in April when Ron Gilbert, the legendary genius behind Lucasfilm Games’ Great Adventures, announced that we would have a new episode of one of his most famous sagas. Back to Monkey Island would come to PC and Nintendo Switch first as the third plot part, and canonical, after LeChuck’s Revenge.
A return to origins
And it happened. Last September 19, arrived Back to Monkey Island, green the laurels of the old franchise with new adventures of an increasingly tarnished Guybrush, of an Elaine who is no longer Governor but champion of noble causes and of course LeChuck, in his role as the eternal enemy of the wannabe pirate who all together, or separately, keep trying to get to know what is the secret of Monkey Island.
The thing is, everyone was surprised because the game did not reach home consoles at first. PS4 and PS5 as well as Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S were left out and, worst of all, without an approximate release date announcement. Now, finally and suddenly, we found out thanks to Devolver Digital and Terrible Toybox making it public. And in addition we barely have time to prepare.
Back to Monkey Island Coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S November 8, in a simult aneous launch that will particularly surprise all those who have an active subscription to Microsoft’s famous Game Pass, since it will be available from then on for the use and enjoyment of the most adventurous. A really interesting move that will allow you to enjoy the adventures of Guybrush Threepwood without spending an extra euro.
but not all are good news
It is curious that at a time like the one in which we find ourselves, where due to the scarcity Stock new generation machines, publishers choose to launch video games straddling the old and the next generation, Terrible Toybos has decided to ignore the arrival of Back to Monkey Island both on PS4 and Xbox One, these users will therefore have to find another way to enjoy this adventure.
Like we say, that doesn’t seem too justified because if there’s one game that can run on PS4 and Xbox One hardware, it’s Back to Monkey Island, so we don’t really know how to frame this decision made by Ron Gilbert. This, yes, in the case of users of the old Microsoft machine, they will have the cloud alternativewith Xbox Cloud Gaming, as the game’s arrival on Game Pass ensures that we have this option available.
For the rest, note the day of the landing of Back to Monkey Island to your PS5 and Xbox Series X | S to take advantage of a delivery that received critical and public acclaimand that many already place it among the best in Lucasfilm Games’ own original franchise.
