Review of the Sony Bravia AG9: Ultra HD TV with excellent Ultra HD

AG9, Bravia, Excellent, Review, Sony, Ultra

Sony Bravia TVs are gaining a lot of reputation for their use of state-of-the-art technology, excellent production quality and exciting offering of features and functionality.

The new AG9 Master series includes premium OLED televisions that combine all the best: Sony design, LG technology on the panel and Google's operating system that makes the viewing experience complete.

However, this comes at a huge cost. The Sony Bravia AG9 is not a cheap television, so in this case to review We will try to analyze if this higher price is due to the special color rendering, larger dynamic range and excellent sound.

Price and availability

The Sony KD-55AG9 is currently for sale in Spain through major electronics stores, such as Fnac, English court and Amazon. Despite its recommended price of € 2,799, it will be easy for you to get a discount.

If you find this model too expensive, you will still get the price of 65 versions of the larger screen" and 77", with a suggested price of € 3,799 and € 7,999 respectively. Also, you can buy them cheap on websites like MediaMarkt.

Design and production quality

Being an OLED TV, the Sony Bravia AG9 doesn't have a backdrop like that, but each pixel flashes itself. That allows this TV to be smaller and more beautiful.

That doesn't mean it's the backdrop where all the input and output ports are located. However, in this case, the area where we find the noisy drivers does not, as often happens.

In this model, all input ports are placed on the left. In addition, the AG9 TV comes with a few plastic covers that allow you to hide the wires connected to the TV. They also prevent them from moving too far when you attach the TV to the wall.

Those who don't want to hang this TV on the wall can use the support at the bottom, which includes a number of cable holders. Therefore, all installation will be clean and neat.

The only thing we get from this support is that it leaves very little space between the face and the TV. While this allows you to properly hide the cables in the background, it will force you to place any device somewhere other than the TV.

In addition to the TV, in the box you will also find a remote control remote that includes buttons provided by Google Assistant, Google Play and Netflix. We miss the Amazon Prime Video button.

It's worth adding that this TV has Netflix rating mode, or you can benefit from the highest image quality to see what you see as it has a panel with a natural presentation of beautiful colors and good contrast and detail.

With standard HD content, the Sony X1 Ultimate processor is able to eliminate unnecessary brightness and other features and give the impression that video quality is the best. Now, it's about 4K HDR content where its comparative quality is recognized.

After a few weeks of use, we are always impressed by the contrast and intensity that this television offers, and especially when we compare it to other HDR radios, its non-standard (or at least not professional) fill.

Performance and image quality

If you look at the specifics, you'll see that the Sony Bravia AG9 has Dolby Vision HDR, HDR10 and HLG but not HDR10 +. This is necessary for telescopes in low light, but this is not a problem with the AG9, so we don't miss it.

In our use case, we did not encounter any dark scenes where details were lost, or very bright pictures. This is why we doubt HDR10 + is required for a TV like AG9.

Tony's ensures that the pixel brightness of the model is over 500 nits, up to 750 nits with special effects. Based on our experience, we have come to calculate that occasionally it can produce up to 900 nits.

We see similar results in other panels such as the LG C9P, but the fact is that we prefer the color and brightness that Sony offers in its AG9.

In addition to the HDR10 +, this TV does not have a specific game latency mode and is not compatible with FreeSync. We think this may change with a future update software from Tony.

Another less interesting attraction is that the AG9 has an audio input that allows the screen to act as a center speaker by adjusting the surround sound. That means you won't even have a center body speaker.

For many users, the AG9 audio will be nice and powerful enough that they won't need external speakers either the sounds. In fact, for us we never raised a value of 100, and that when we reached 60, it seemed too high.

The default image balance is perfect, although depending on the environment you will want to end setting it. Of course, we do not end up loving the light available with the available light detector, but that may not work.

On the other hand, we would also like to have the opportunity to optimize for different content quality: SD, HD, 4K or HDR. However, the image quality and ability to control it are generally excellent.

Add-ons and software

Android TV has been criticized lately, mainly because of some manufacturers that use cheap electronics on their TVs and expect it to work well in a 4K resolution system.

In this case, the Android TV interface (8.0) only works at 1080p. In addition the MediaTek MT5893 quad-core CPU, Mali-G71 GPU, 4 GB of RAM and storage capacity of 16 GB work well.

When you install the VLC app for Android, you can see the X264 and X265 content without any problems. The advantage of using Android before any other operating system is that you can install multiple programs, including services internally to broadcast little known

Obviously, you can also benefit from all Google features, such as Google Assistant. In addition, it will be very useful to control your TV remotely and you will not need a Chromecast because it already comes with integrated.

There is nothing less against the Android platform we found on this TV. On the other hand, it concerns us that, when you change the interface, the video and audio of what you are watching is disconnected. We would love a solution photo-in-picture.

On the other hand, we're a little disappointed that you can only have one Google account at a time related to your TV, because that doesn't work much for families who wish to switch accounts easily.

The decision

The Sony Bravia AG9 is particularly impressive, especially when viewing HDR content. The whole panel is fully utilized and the most vague or ridiculous pictures are displayed. And that doesn't have the HDR10 +.

Now, price differences with other TVs such as the LG Electronics C9P may not be right for you, especially for those who aren't professional or intend to watch 4K HDR content throughout the day.

The AG9 level will be a lot higher if you're going to watch more TV, HD or SD videos or Netflix HDR content. HD will look better, but it will still not have any dynamic listings or detailed pictures.

Although the TV is good, however, we still find it expensive even with a few discounts. Many of us do not have such an investment to spend on one television.
