Samsung may be best known for its flagship phones, but the company offers plenty of more affordable devices.
This includes the 2023 Galaxy A14, which ranks among the most budget-friendly phones you can buy. The main thing you’re missing is 5G, a feature you’ll find on the slightly more expensive Galaxy A14 5G.
But as expected, attention quickly shifted to their successors. And with the Galaxy A15 and A15 5G already official in Vietnam, we know a lot about them.
When will the Samsung Galaxy A15 be released?
Samsung officially launched the Galaxy A15 and A15 5G in Vietnam and the Philippines on December 12, 2023, before the phones went on sale there four days later.
According to the Dutch technology site Galaxy Club, the two phones will arrive in Europe “late 2023 or very early 2024”. Judging by previous releases, it will likely be the same time in North America.
Korean site SBS Biz (via SamMobile) reports that Samsung will host an event for the Galaxy S24 series in San Francisco on January 17, 2024. Could the A14 and A14 5G launch in Europe at the same time?
For context, here is the release date of previous phones:
- Samsung Galaxy A14 – February 2023
- Samsung Galaxy A14 5G – January 2023
- Samsung Galaxy A13 – March 2022
- Samsung Galaxy A13 5G – December 2021
Assuming Samsung continues with the same rough update cycle, it’s highly likely we’ll see the A15 phones worldwide in early 2024.
How much will the Samsung Galaxy A15 cost?
So far we only have pricing for phones in Vietnam and the Philippines, where Samsung has already launched them:
- Samsung Galaxy A15 – from VND4,990,000/PHP9,990 (around £150/$190)
- Samsung Galaxy A15 5G – starting at VND6,290,000/PHP10,990 (around £170/$230)
However, the UK and US figures are only direct conversions and therefore will not be entirely accurate. Galaxy Club estimates that both will cost around $200, with “the 4G model just below, the 5G model just above.”
It is possible that the price will be approximately the same as that of the 2023 models:
- Samsung Galaxy A14 – £179/$150
- Samsung Galaxy A14 5G – £219/$199.99
However, it would be nice to see the UK and US figures match. Currently, UK customers pay significantly more for the same experience.
What specifications and features will the Samsung Galaxy A15 have?
With the Galaxy A15 and A15 5G now official in Vietnam, we have a very good idea of what to expect. There are unlikely to be any significant changes to the global versions of both phones.
Let’s start with the standard 4G model, which seems like a nice upgrade over the Galaxy A14. The usual processor upgrade is here, with the A15 powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset. However, the A14 also used the Exynos 850 in some countries, so it might be the same again.
Samsung
There are options for 4, 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage, so the entry-level 64 GB model appears to have been discontinued. If you’re still worried about running out of storage, Micro-SD cards are still supported.
However, it’s the screen that has the most striking improvements. The A14’s 6.6-inch 60Hz LCD panel has been replaced with a 6.5-inch 90Hz OLED, which should be a big step forward. Its FHD+ resolution is largely the same, but you should notice the difference when placing them side by side.
The 5,000mAh battery capacity remains unchanged, but USB-C charging increases from 15W to 25W. However, a charger is still unlikely to be included in the box.
It doesn’t seem like cameras are getting much attention, though, at least from a hardware standpoint. You still get a triple rear setup, with 50MP main, 5MP ultra-wide and 2MP, plus a 13MP selfie lens. Hopefully, Samsung has upgraded the software processing to make the decent photography experience even better.
Samsung
On the more expensive A15 5G, there are only three upgrades. It runs the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ chipset (at least in Vietnam), which seems significantly more powerful than the A15, but also the A14 5G’s Dimensity 700.
As the name suggests, this chip includes support for 5G. And you also have a gyroscope sensor, allowing you to view 360-degree photos and videos.
But other than that, it’s the exact same phone. The 6.5-inch 90Hz OLED panel remains an upgrade over the A14 5G, however.
And both new phones run Samsung’s latest One UI 6 skin on Android 14 at launch. If the update commitment is the same, you can expect them to get Android 16 and updates until 2027, but nothing after that.
