Nick Fury has always been a supporting character in the MCU, but finally he’s in the limelight in the upcoming MCU live-action series for Disney+, Secret Invasion.
Announced on Disney Investor Day alongside Ironheart, this show will fit into Phase 5 and tie into the overall Infinity Saga narrative.
If you want to know more about Secret Invasion, including who’s playing, what the plot is, and especially when it’s coming out, then keep reading. We also have a similar post for Loki Season 2.
When will Secret Invasion be released?
Originally, Secret Invasion was slated for release in late 2022, following Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Moon Knight.
However, Marvel has now confirmed that the series has been pushed back to Spring 2023. During this year, it will be joined by shows such as Ironheart, Echo and Loki Season 2.
The cast were spotted filming around Leeds. We don’t yet know if the show will feature this city, or if it’s a stand-in for another location, like London.
How many episodes are there in Secret Invasion?
Kevin Feige confirmed to Collider that there will be six episodes, in line with other live-action MCU shows.

Who is in the cast of Secret Invasion?
Of course, as this show centers around Nick Fury, it wouldn’t be complete without the man himself, Samuel L. Jackson. Ben Mendelsohn will also reprise his role as Talos, as seen in Captain Marvel.
Cobie Smulders is also back in the MCU, returning as SHIELD Agent Maria Hill. She appeared in several films at this point, including The Avengers. Martin Freeman will also reprise his role as Everett Ross – he recently appeared in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Olivia Coleman will play a hitherto unnamed role in the series. Kingsley Ben-Adir is also considered a villain in the series.
Emilia Clarke, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald and Carmen Ejogo are also joining the series, all in unnamed roles. Don Cheadle’s War Machine and Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross will also appear in the series.
Behind the camera, the series will be directed by Thomas Bezucha (Let Him Go) and Ali Selim (The Looming Tower). The scripts come from Kyle Bradstreet, best known for producing and writing for Mr. Robot.
What is the plot of Secret Invasion?
The last time we saw Nick Fury in the MCU was in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home. He was aboard a spaceship with a whole bunch of Skrulls – a shapeshifting alien race first introduced in Captain Marvel. The Skrulls will play a big role in Secret Invasion.
In the comics, the Skrulls infiltrate the human race and impersonate other people, including taking the place of some of the Marvel Universe’s greatest heroes.
With Fury working alongside Talos and the Skrulls right now, Marvel will have to tweak things a bit to accommodate the MCU, but expect the main plot lines to remain the same. That means there could be some great Marvel characters who have secretly been someone else all along.
The first trailer revealed that Nick Fury has come out of hiding to help deal with the new threat. He could possibly work with Olivia Coleman for this – although we don’t yet know what his role is.
Cobie Smulders has warned that this series has a “darker” tone in the MCU, so expect plenty of twists and betrayals.
