The first thing is to explain what Intelligent Standby List Cleaner (ISLC) software is. From its name we understand that it cleans something, but what? It is a simple but powerful tool that allows you to free up RAM space occupied by junk.
In fact, the RAM memory is cleaned every time you turn off the computer. When you lose power, all the information is completely erased. But, as we mentioned, Windows is not very good and loves to fill the hard drive and RAM with useless data. Precisely, the ISLC tool eliminates all these files stored in the RAM that only take up space, to occupy.

The great thing about this software is that it is portable, come on, it does not require installation. You just need to follow these steps:
- Download the program.
- Navigate to the folder where it was downloaded.
- Right click on the program.
- Now click on “Extract here”.
Now you will see a folder with the name of the software and inside the executable. Just click on it and tell Windows to stop fighting you and it will, it is a safe software.
When it is there, you will see an extremely simple interface. The truth is that there is not much to do in this software and we are only interested in some sections. These are:
- Total system memory: the total amount of RAM in the system expressed in megabytes (MB). This value is fixed.
- System Watchlist and Working Set: is the amount of available RAM expressed in megabytes (MB). This value will vary depending on your needs. Next to this setting you will see the button “Purge the watch list» so we can purge the RAM if we don’t want to program it or if we want to clean it first.
- Free memory: amount of RAM memory, also in megabytes (MB) that we can free up. The amount usually fluctuates a lot.
- The watch list has been emptied: It tells us the number of times the RAM memory has been emptied.
- The watch list will be purged when these 2 conditions are met: This section is interesting because we can set two parameters that, when put together, will purge RAM.
- The size of the list at least: Minimum list size expressed in megabytes (MB). We can change this value as we wish, but 1024 MB is perfect.
- Free memory is less than: It refers to the amount of RAM memory available in the system. You can set it to any value you want, but 1024MB is also a good value.
No other settings are needed, just click on “Start”. The software will remain in the background. It hides at the bottom right of the Windows bar, next to the icons of other applications.
The good news is that this will free up RAM occupied by junk files or files that are no longer useful. It’s a fairly safe process and should give you a bit of extra performance.
