We all know that the PC gaming market is a little oasis in the middle of the battle between Sony and Microsoft over consoles, where things aren’t so friendly. For example, in prices, since the new ones have already made the leap to 80 dollars of the cost –in the normal editions– thanks to the arrival of the new generation of machines, both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Exclusives on PC, a problem?
A few years from now, Sony launched a huge opening plan whereby many of its PlayStation-exclusive games became available on PC, but of course, to carve its way into that territory. had to adopt the habits and customs of what a player for computer demand. And that includes paying slightly less inflated prices for new stuff.
This for Sony, obviously, must have a bit of a fly because while in one store it offers these same games at a standard PS5 price, in the other there is a reduction of 10, 20 dollars or more. It is true that in Europe this margin is very narrow and it seems that there is not much way to download them unilaterally, out of the trend that Steam somehow sets, but that could change in the coming months.
There are signs that Sony wants its exclusive games to sell a little more on PC, and we just saw that a few days ago when the Japanese have announced widespread increases in certain territories Spanish-speaking countries such as Mexico, Argentina, Chile or Colombia, but also in China, Canada, Japan and South Korea. In the case of Argentina, the increases went from 5,999 pesos (about 25 dollars) to 9,999 (40 dollars), which represents a significant jump.
Will this also affect us in Europe?
In this case we find ourselves in the same way as in other circumstances in which a company begins to move to certain territories and Over the months, it replicates similar measures in Europe. Of course, at the moment the price of the exclusives in our country seems quite adjusted and aligned with what Steam brand, which is the reference store, but this could change quickly.
So the best thing to do is to “put our beard to soak” and if you want to get one of Sony’s PC exclusives, do it. thereby to the lowest offer that appears in the Valve store. It’s not just in the interval we think about it the price goes up a few dollars and it no longer seems interesting to us.
In any case, Sony should be warned that however strong its PlayStation exclusives and absolute power in its ecosystem, the PC market is surely not so tame and players could revolt against a measure that, at least in the compatible market, does not seem to be on the table or in the minds of those who run the main sales platform.
