Sony made its flagship launch of mobile devices, the one it usually does at the beginning of the year, surprisingly with three new phones including the Xperia 1 III, and the Xperia 5 III and the Xperia 10 III.
The Xperia 1 III is most notable by including a series of world firsts in the mid-range, for which 5G connectivity is added. Rumors about the Xperia 10 III had cropped up on the net, but nothing was known about the Xperia 5 III model which was also presented.
We now know that the Xperia 5 III offers the technology of the Xperia 1 III but in a much more compact design format (although it is not called the Xperia Compact). Let’s see the positioning of each of them.
Sony Xperia 1 III
First of all, you should know that this and the Xperia 5 III are intended to attract the consumers that Sony has pursued the most in recent years, namely photographers, moviegoers, mobile gamers, and audiophiles.
In fact, the two main features of the Xperia 1 III are its screen and its cameras. Sony is the only manufacturer to offer smartphones with 4K screens, despite their consumption. In return, we have a spectacular 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED panel with a refresh rate that reaches 120Hz.
Already last year, Sony forced consumers to choose between the 4K benefits of the Xperia 1 II or the high 120Hz refresh rate of the Xperia 5 II. This year, all you have to do is decide on the screen size and resolution.
While the Xperia 1 III offers its fair share of tech, its camera is another promising area of innovation, with a 12MP triple rear-sensor setup, supported by an iToF 3D sensor for depth perception and focus. on point.
While last year’s model’s triple camera setup allowed for ultra-wide zoom and 3x telephoto, this year Sony upgraded the telephoto sensor with a periscope module. It also gave you the option to switch between a focal range of 70mm and 105mm.
As a flagship model, the phone packs the Qualcomm 888 processor along with 12GB of RAM, 5G connectivity, and a 3,500mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging.
Thanks to the new structure of the phone, the integrated stereo speakers offer 40% more power than its predecessor, in addition to maintaining the 3.5mm headphone jack and the physical button dedicated to capturing photos.

Sony Xperia 5 III
Although the Xperia Compact has yet to be officially unveiled, the Xperia 5 III seems to have become its clear successor as it exudes a lot of features from th is Xperia series.
It retains the same triple camera setup on the back, with a variable 70 and 105mm telephoto lens, the same Snapdragon 888 premium phone chip, a panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 4,500mAh battery with a 30W load.
The smaller screen remains at 6.1 inches in the 21: 9 aspect ratio the company is used to. Ditch 4K viewing to maintain a more conservative battery consumption experience, supporting Full HD + resolution.
The iToF 3D sensor is missing from its rear camera assembly, which reduces autofocus over time compared to what is offered by the Xperia 1 III, but as you can see there are few limitations compared to to his older brother.

Sony Xperia 10 III
Last year, the Xperia 10 II carved out a niche in the crowded mid-range market by delivering a unique combination of features its rivals simply didn’t have.
A 21: 9 OLED display, IP65 / 68 dust and water resistance, and a 3.5mm headphone jack were (and still are) a unique subset of features, especially for a mid-range device. range.
In this way, in this new generation, Sony has limited itself to changing the chipset that works inside for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 SoC model that brings 5G compatibility, and adds HDR compatibility in the visual section.
Beyond that, on paper, the Xperia 10 III appears to be almost double its predecessor from 2020. Of course, Sony has improved the software experience with audio and other improvements, as well as the addition of new features. to the camera, which previously only owned the flagships of the company.
Like last year’s Xperia 10 II and the models announced today, the mobile also continues to offer the 3.5mm headphone jack, which the Japanese company wanted to differentiate itself with.

Pricing and availability
It is still too early to know the final availability of these new models which have just been presented by Sony. It is likely that, as has happened on previous occasions, availability in Europe will be slightly delayed before the summer months.
For comparison, the Xperia 1 II last year was launched at a price of 1199 $, the Xperia 5 II It cost 899 $ and the Xperia 10 II (without 5G) it costs 369 $.
