If you’ve had enough of the adventures of the Skywalkers (and all their relatives and friends), we have some good news for you. Soon you will be able to watch a brand new series from the Star Wars universe, which will take you to a world that existed decades before Anakin was born.
The Sidekick is one of the most mysterious tales of any upcoming Star Wars show. It’s created by Russian Doll showrunner Leslye Headland, and the story will be set in a time we’ve never seen on screen before.
We’ve scoured the galaxy (well, the internet) to find everything we know about this latest series, as well as the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and the Rogue One prequel, Andor. You can also find out how to watch all Star Wars shows and movies in order.
When will The Acolyte premiere?
According to Collider, the new series from the Star Wars universe will be released on Disney+ later this month. summer 2024.
The creators of The Acolyte have yet to confirm this information – we hope to know more soon.
What is The Acolyte about?
Details are quite scarce at the moment. We know it will be female-centric, and Disney’s official blurb says a little more:
“The Acolyte” is a mystery thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of dark secrets and emerging dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.
In case you didn’t know, the era of the High Republic was a few hundred years before the period shown in the films, when the Republic was at its peak. Expect to see the Jedi Order in full swing and likely facing Sith threats we’ve never seen before.
Creator Leslye Headland revealed in an interview with The Wrap that the way the Jedi acted in The Phantom Menace inspired her as a creator. She wondered why the Jedi were not reacting to Anakin’s presence and wanted to know more about Darth Maul.
We don’t know precisely how these events will relate to The Acolyte, but perhaps thematically they will be similar.
