The Super Bowl is one of the biggest sporting events of the year, watched by millions of people around the world. As such, this makes it the perfect place for studios to release some of their biggest commercials for upcoming films and TV series.
We now have a good idea of the big game announcements that will take place on Sunday, February 11th. If you want to start planning your watching schedule, keep reading – we’ll also update this list after the games are over in case you miss the trailers.
You can also find out how to watch Super Bowl 58 and who’s headlining the halftime show (spoilers, it’s not Taylor Swift).
Disney Studios
What trailers are likely to air during the Super Bowl?
Variety has released an official list, but of course, this is subject to change. Here are the films and series currently expected:
Deadpool 3
Deadpool is now officially under the Disney MCU umbrella, and behind-the-scenes teasers have confirmed that Hugh Jackman will return to play Wolverine – although he’s likely a variant from another multiverse. If a first trailer comes out, expect plenty of fourth wall breaks and a nod to the bloody, sweary nature this series is known for.
Inside Out 2
Pixar’s hit Inside Out is officially getting a sequel and will introduce a whole new emotion called Anxiety. There is also a huge upheaval when the headquarters undergoes a complete renovation. Disney already released a short teaser a few months ago, so a full trailer makes sense.
Twists
The 1996 hit Twister will receive a standalone sequel starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell and Anthony Ramos. The original disaster movie followed a group of storm chasers who risk their lives to repair a warning system. No trailer has been released yet.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
The Planet of the Apes trilogy was a visually stunning spectacle, chronicling the revolutionary life of Caesar. This film takes place 300 years later, when humans have fallen back into a primitive state. Again, there was a teaser a few months ago, so this will likely be a full trailer.
Villain: Part One
The Wizard of Oz musical spin-off, Wicked, reimagines the classic tale, told from the point of view of Elphaba, aka the Wicked Witch of the West. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will play the lead roles, and no trailer has yet been released for the film. As it’s split into two parts, the first half will almost certainly cover Act 1 of the musical, up to the iconic Defying Gravity number.
The guy who falls just in time
Ryan Gosling plays stuntman Colt Seavers, who has been out of work for a year. He is called back into the world of Hollywood when an actor mysteriously disappears – but the longer he stays there, the more sinister things become. There’s already been a first trailer for The Fall Guy, so that might give more insight into the plot and some cool stunts.
What trailers were released during Super Bowl week?
After Variety’s initial report, some studios took the plunge and released their trailers before Sunday. Some may have slightly different ads or clips, but it’s likely that anything below will be reshared.
