Having a working temperature in the processor is a necessity, both to extend its useful life and to give us excellent performance, because at some point they start incorporating something called Thermal Throttling, which reduces the speed of operation and use to lower the temperature and thus maintain its integrity.
The temperature of the AMD processor
In the following table we have summarized the main stages of AMD processors –exclude those that have been used, that have not been determined and are no longer in use,, where you can find the highest temperatures they support depending on the manufacturer itself, as well as the range of long-run temperatures.
In other words, the highest temperature can be achieved at certain times or peaks without any occurrence, but from there it is dangerous for the integrity of the processor. For its part, the recommended temperature refers to at higher temperatures the processor should reach a single operation in progress.
Recommended temperature | High temperatures | |
---|---|---|
Phenom II X3 and X4 | 50ºC | 65ºC |
Phenom II X6 | 45ºC | 65ºC |
FX-9590/9370 | 40ºC | 57ºC |
FX-8370E / 8320E | 50ºC | 70.50ºC |
FX-8370/8350/8320 | 45ºC | 61.10ºC |
FX-6000 Series | 40ºC | 61ºC |
FX-4000 Series | 50ºC | 70.50ºC |
Athlon and Serie A | 55ºC | 90ºC |
Ryzen 1000 Series | 75ºC | 95ºC |
Ryzen 2000 Series | 75ºC | 95ºC |
The Ryzen 3000 series | 75ºC | 95ºC |
Threadripper 1000 Series | 75ºC | 95ºC |
Threadripper 2000 Series | 48ºC | 68ºC |
Threadripper 3000 Series | 75ºC | 95ºC |
Ryzen 4000 (Laptops) | 75ºC | 105ºC |
Ryzen 3000 (Laptops) | 75ºC | 95ºC |
Ryzen 2000 (Laptops) | 75ºC | 95ºC |
Ryzen 5 3580U (Microsoft Surface) | 75ºC | 105ºC |
Athlon Gold (Laptops) | 75ºC | 95ºC |
Athlon Silver (Laptops) | 75ºC | 95ºC |
APU Series A (7th Gen, portable) | 70ºC | 90ºC |
As you can see most of the modern AMD (Ryzen and Threadripper) processors they can rise to 95ºC, other than the Threadripper 2000 series that remembers you well, you had trouble feeling the heat once they were about 20ºC below that is why its temperatures are so high. It is similar to Athlon and Serie A processors, which allow up to 90ºC before being in danger.
As for the laptops promotion processes, all of which are at a high temperature between 90 and 105ºC, the temperatures are quite high, and it should be noted that in these active processes Throttling starts from 75ºC, the reason why the refrigerator looks at its head is so important.
What are the correct temperatures?
Although the manufacturer provides us with a very high temperature, the processor protection mechanisms actually come into effect at first, limiting performance. So what temperature is appropriate for AMD processors? We would definitely recommend that it can never be more than 60ºC in continuous operation in any case, even if it is not possible if you have Ryzen operating at 70ºC.
Of course, lowering the temperature is better, and if you have seen that the processor gets too hot you will lose performance and, of course, your PC becomes too noisy, so you have to spend time finding the cause (either dirty or air flow is not enough) or investing in purchases better heatsink keep the processor at optimum temperatures.
