The Ultion Nuki, the smart lock designed for UK doors, has been given an upgrade. Hello Ultion Nuki Plus.
The new model has built-in Wi-Fi and a rechargeable battery. It also got a bit of a design shine and is available in black or white, with an aluminum control element.
You can buy the new Ultion Nuki Plus at Ultion and Amazon. It’s priced at £379, depending on whether you choose to get the lock alone, or with a fingerprint recognition keypad or Bluetooth key fob.
Of all the new features, the biggest upgrade to the original Ultion Nuki has to be the built-in Wi-Fi. This will allow you to unlock your door remotely. It also means that you can check its condition when you go out and reassure yourself that, yes, you thought about locking the door before leaving the house.
These features were available on the original lock, but only if you purchased the Nuki Bridge separately (£89 from Nuki).
The battery upgrade is also nice for added convenience. When the battery is low, you just need to eject the pack from the lock, plug it directly into a USB-C cable and it will recharge in 4-5 hours. You’ll get plenty of warnings in the app when the battery is low, and most people just lock their door in the evening and charge the battery overnight.
Ultion Nuki
The Ultion Nuki Plus is compatible with major smart home platforms including Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit and IFTTT, allowing you to do things like open or lock your door with voice command (more – for more obvious security reasons – a PIN code). It also works with apps like Ring and Airbnb. Airbnb hosts can reduce administrative tasks and hassle by choosing to automatically send an electronic key to guests upon booking.
Homeowners can also issue time-specific digital keys to friends and family and will receive a notification when they open or close the door.
As for the Ultion hardware, it has a 3-Star Plus Diamond Sold Secure rating, which means it has been tested beyond the requirements of TS007 and has passed inspection by the Master Locksmiths Association.
And, just like its predecessor, the Plus can’t be seen from the outside. Not only does this add security, but it makes it a good choice for vintage homes where a state-of-the-art lock might seem out of place. You can keep your current door handle or choose one of the seven options offered by Ultion.
It’s designed to be installed in place of a standard lock – and installation can be done by the homeowner in just 5-10 minutes. No drilling or wiring is required: Ultion says all it takes is changing three screws.
To expand its functionality, the Ultion Nuki Plus is compatible with accessories such as a fingerprint recognition keypad (£145, Nuki), the Ultion Keytag with Apple Find My (£39, Ultion) and a wallet. Bluetooth dongles (£49, Nuki).
