Unfortunately, Mike White’s series won’t be back anytime soon – HBO has pushed back The White Lotus premiere date to 2025.
Where will The White Lotus season 3 take place?
Initially, it was assumed that the new season would take place in the Maldives – this resort was mentioned by Daphne during her farewell dinner with Cameron, Ethan and Harper in season 2.
There were also rumors that the team wanted to film the third installment of the series in Japan. However, HBO has finally confirmed that season 3 will happen in Thailand.

What will be the plot of season 3 of The White Lotus?
As of this writing, HBO has not revealed any plot details for the new season. However, it is known that the story will focus on religion and spirituality.
In a video unpacking the season 2 finale, Mike White said:
The first season was kind of about money, and then the second season was about sex. I think the third season would perhaps be a satirical and funny look at death, Eastern religion and spirituality. Looks like it could be a rich tapestry to take another spin at White Lotus.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the series creator revealed that:
It will be an oversized White Lotus. It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don’t know what people are going to think, but I’m super excited, so at least for my own barometer, it’s a good thing.

Tanya McQuoid, played by Jennifer Coolidge, was in Seasons 1 and 2. However, after Tanya’s death in the Season 2 finale, we now know that she has no chance of returning. The question is: who could be back in season 3 in his place?

According to Variety, the new installment of the anthology will star Natasha Rothwell, who played spa director Belinda Lindsey in the first season.
Tanya’s husband Greg (Jon Gries), who was likely behind the plan to kill the millionaire, survived season 2. The question of whether he was successful in getting his wife’s inheritance remains an open question. Portia (Haley Lu Richardson) also makes it out of Sicily alive – following Jack’s “advice”, she heads straight to the airport, where she learns from Albie (Adam DiMarco) about the tragic events on the yacht. However, the girl may decide to find out what really happened to her boss.
In a clip mentioned above about season 2, Mike White said:
I think as far as what happens to Greg and the conspiracy of Tanya’s death, it’s possible that Portia is scared enough to leave her alone, but the fact that all these guys die on the boat makes it seem that there must be someone who will find him back to Greg. But you may have to wait to find out what happens.
The designer also joked about the return of the Di Grasso family:
Who knows, maybe there will be another one White Lotus season where Dominic comes with his wife and they sort it all out!
Considering that Dom’s wife’s voice in season 2 was recorded by Laura Dern, such a turn of events would be welcome.
