Just a few weeks ago, we spoke to you in an opinion article which PC video games are increasingly demanding in terms of hardware configuration, and often this does not translate into better performance because in reality, if they ask for so many requirements, it is for just one poor optimization. Well, now we have the first game on the market that directly lists a RTX4090the most powerful graphics card on the market today, necessary to be able to play in 4K resolution and 60 FPS.
We won’t dare say that requiring a graphics card costing more than $2,000 to play in 4K is due to poor optimization because we don’t really know, but the new thing here is that they are doing just that. It is Test the unlimited solar corona
The first game to use an RTX 4090
Although its official launch has been set for September 12, 2024, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown already has a playable demo for PC, and its technical requirements are simply… demanding. These came to us in the form of a press release, and for some reason they’re not released as such on Steam at the moment, but we’ve compiled them below in table form so so you can see them.
Minimum requirements (720p at 30 FPS with low graphics) | Recommended requirements (1080p at 60 FPS with media graphics) | Recommended requirements (1440p at 60 FPS with high graphics) | Recommended requirements (4K at 60 FPS with ultra graphics) | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Processor | Intel Core i7-6700K / AMD Ryzen 7 1800X | Intel Core i7-10700K / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X | Intel Core i5-12600K / AMD Ryzen 5 7600X | Intel Core i9-14900K / AMD Ryzen 9 7900X |
RAM memory | 12 GB | 12 GB | 16 GB | 32 GB |
Graphic card | GTX 1060 6GB / Radeon RX 480 8GB | RTX 2080 / Radeon RX 6700 | RTX 4070 / Radeon RX 6900XT | RTX4090 |
Operating system | Windows 10 | Windows 10 | Windows 10 | Windows 10 |
Disk space | 50 GB | 50 GB | 50 GB | 50 GB |
There is no denying that Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown looks impressive, but its technical requirements for playing in 4K resolution and 60 FPS with maximum graphics are also very high, because if we start doing the math we would be facing a PC of around 4,000 dollars approximately.
Additionally, we personally find the requirements a bit strange in some cases; For example, to play at 1080p with graphics at medium level, you need an Intel Core i7-10700K processor (8 cores and 16 threads), but to go to 1440p with graphics at high level, you need a Core i5-12600K (10 cores (6 P and 4 E) and 16 threads) which is actually lower due to having a lower number of P cores. On the other hand, does going from 1440p in high to 4K in ultra double RAM consumption? Increases from 16 to 32 GB required.
Try it yourself in its playable demo
Anyway, now you can try for yourself how this game works on your PC, whether you have an RTX 4090 or not, since as we said before, they have just released their playable demo for PC via Steam (you linked it at the bottom of this article), but yes, only until June 17.
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will arrive in its final version on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series Moreover, out of curiosity, it should be noted that one of the “circuits” of this game consists of an exact reconstruction on a 1:1 scale from the city of Hong Kong, which is no small feat.
