When purchasing a smartphone, in addition to taking into account the quality of the screen, the photographic module and the processor, you must also take into account the available storage space since the current trend among manufacturers does not does not imply authorizing the use of SD cards and if this is the case, the transfer speed will not always be the same as that offered by the internal disk.

Thanks to the versatility offered by the USB-C connection, if we want to take advantage of greater storage space we can do so, instead of using an SD card connect a portable hard drive. The problem with this type of device is their size and the associated discomfort, especially if we want to continue using our cell phone.

PD20M SSD with magnetic mount

The solution to this problem is found in this device which has just been presented. We are talking about the PD20M, an external and magnetic storage unit from the manufacturer TeamGroup. This new magnetic storage drive features a weight of 40 grams and thickness of 82 mm, slightly higher than that of most current mobile phones. At the moment we do not know what measurements this external storage unit will have.

The PD20M is designed for use with Apple’s MagSafe technology, as it includes a series of magnets on the back to attach without any additional accessories to the device, although it can be used with any any other mobile device or even with our computer if we are looking for a small SSD, since the connection cable is USB-C.

Remember that with the launch of the iPhone 15, Apple was forced by the European Union to abandon the Lightning cable and go to USB-C. It has a transfer speed of up to 10 Gbps, which allows us to copy large amounts of data in just a few seconds and very comfortably.

If our cell phone is not an iPhone, we can use one of the different cases available on the market that include a magnetic holder on the back to place the smartphone in plain sight in our vehicle or in a charging station.

At the moment we do not know what the starting price will be and the versions in which this magnetic SSD will be available to free up space on our mobile phone, whether it is an iPhone 15 or any other equipped with a USB-C connection. We will have to wait until March to plan its launch on the market.

The base iPhone 15 has 128 GB of storage space, a very short space if you’re used to it. record videos in 4K quality. If, in addition, we use Apple’s ProRes technology, the size of the videos may take a few 6 GB per minuteso this type of drive is undoubtedly a great idea for Apple users.

Given the space it takes up, it would be logical to think that the PD20M that TeamGroup just presented should be available in 512 and 1TB storage options at least, and, even so, it may not seem much, provided that because we are not dedicated to recording videos professionally.
