It seems that adding a LCD screen Showing the temperature of air heaters has become fashionable, as we face the third in three days. However, in this case the model Lamptron It’s quite special because it’s a very high-end heat sink capable of dissipating up to 260W of heat, and whose LCD screen is, to say the least, striking with its 6 inches diagonal and its resolution Full HD…almost like a smartphone.
Until now we had already seen many AIO liquid-cooled heatsinks with a small screen to provide us with information, such as CPU temperature, taking advantage of the fact that the device also had to be connected to a USB connector on the motherboard for control and monitoring. However, it is only in recent days that air heatsinks offering this same functionality have started to appear, which is not so common because in this case we are talking about having to carry an extra cable that we do not have. We normally don’t.
A mobile screen installed on a heat sink
The heat sink in question is the Lamptron ST060, which has quite considerable dimensions (128 x 153 x 168 mm) due to its double aluminum sheet tower and double fan design, quite similar in design to other quite famous heatsinks in the industry like the Noctua NH-D15, the DeepCool Assassin IV or the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE. According to the manufacturer, this enormous heat sink is capable of handling up to 260W of heat, more than enough to keep at bay the heat generated by the most “greedy” processors on the market like the Ryzen 9 or the high-end Core i9. .
It is compatible with all modern CPU sockets, including Intel’s LGA1700 and AMD’s AM5 (also older versions, in fact it can even be mounted on the older Intel LGA1366), and both Fans (without RGB) are 120 mm capable of producing up to 2.05 mm H2O of atmospheric pressure while emitting only 35.3 dBA of noise. It incorporates a nickel-plated copper base and six copper heat pipes that pass through the two towers of aluminum sheets to distribute the heat.
It is undoubtedly a high-performance air heat sink, but the most interesting thing is the screen that the manufacturer has installed on its upper part so that we can see the information through the side panel of the device. It is a 6-inch LCD display with an aspect ratio of 16:9 and a resolution of 1920 x 1080, that is, it is practically a mobile display installed on the heat sink. The manufacturer has not provided data such as refresh rate or response time.
What Lamptron said is that we can integrate the screen operation with software like Aida64 (actually they provide a license for this software) to monitor different system parameters, but be careful because they also confirmed that it can even be used as a second monitor (despite its size, I’m sure more than one person will find it useful…like running DOOM on a heatsink while you’re at it).
The bad side of all this is that in addition to connecting the two fans to the motherboard or to a rehobus, there are two additional cables necessary for the screen to work: on the one hand we have a standard USB-A to power it, and on the other an HDMI connector for the video signal (when we told you it was a screen it was literal). Lamptron of course provides all the wiring needed to connect it to the heatsink.
The new Lamptron ST060 is now available in European stores like German Caseking at the price of, hold on to your chair, 299.90 dollars.
