These days, the Gamescom 2024 event is taking place in Germany, where some pretty interesting things are being presented. NVIDIA took advantage of the event to announce the game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. The special feature of this game is that it supports NVIDIA DLSS 3.5 and Ray Tracing complete, entering a select club which, to date, consisted of three matches.

For those who don’t know, DLSS technology is used to run the game at a lower resolution than requested and then scale it by AI and get extra performance. As an example, we want to run a game in 4K resolution with 120 FPS, but our graphics don’t allow it, but with this technology it runs at 1080p and scales to 4K, thus getting 120 FPS or more.

Ray Tracing, on the other hand, is the technology that improves ambient lighting. Among other things, it improves reflections on surfaces and shadows. All calculations are done in real time, which is extremely demanding in terms of hardware.

New Indiana Jones game with DLSS 3.5 and Ray Tracing

Currently, you should know that there are only three games with DLSS 3.5 and full Ray Tracing. These games are Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2 and Black Myth: Wukong. The new game from the greatest adventurer in cinema joins this exclusive club.

The new Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is characterized by the use of the id Tech graphics engine, which is the engine developed by id Software. The version of the graphics engine has not been specified, but it is normal that it was developed with the id Tech 7 graphics engine.

Interestingly, the four games that use DLSS 3.5 and full Ray Tracing are developed with 4 different graphics engines. Specifically:

  • Cyberpunk 2077 uses the REDengine 4 graphics engine developed by CD Projekt Red.
  • Alan Wake 2 is based on the Northlight Engine graphics engine created by Remedy Entertainment.
  • Black Myth: Wukong is a game created by Game Science that was created under the Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine.
  • Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is created, as expected, in the id Tech 7 graphics engine and was developed by id Software.

We haven’t seen much about the game, apart from a small demo currently available on YouTube. It serves to open the mouth about this interesting adventure game in which we will put ourselves in the shoes of the most famous archaeologist in cinema. There is no doubt that we will have to face many challenges to achieve this goal.

Currently, there are no confirmed specifications for the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle game. The game will be released on PC and Xbox Series X|S on December 9th. It wouldn’t be unusual for a new RTX 50 series to be required to run the game at 4K resolution with DLSS 3.5 + Ray Tracing.

NVIDIA plans to launch the new RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 on the market between October and November. It should be noted that the company has indicated that possibly, during the first weeks, the stock will be limited. This is due to the great saturation of TSMC, the foundry in charge of manufacturing these GPUs.
