There’s no doubt that the PS4 has dominated the console market for nearly a decade, with over 117 units sold to date and over 22.5 million units sold in its first year and a half. However, the low stock the PS5 had when it was released led to some pretty low numbers to begin with, although it’s true that many other consoles are now sold and they’re already at 38.4 million (at this day) March 31 of this year).
Therefore, if you are console and you haven’t had a chance to get your hands on Sony’s latest console yet, you’re probably thinking of buying a PS5 right now, before the summer. But is it a good idea? We think not, and we tell you why.
Games, exclusive or not
It is quite common that players having multiple platforms to play on, like PC, console, and even handheld. For this reason, manufacturers tend to try to release exclusive games for their console, such as “forcing” users to buy their hardware if they want to play those titles.
The problem is, the PS5 doesn’t have too many today, and in fact in the Playstation Showcase In May of that same year, when users expected the announcement of many exclusives, they did not announce much: shortly after, Microsoft itself announced that most of the announced games would also be available on Xbox Series X|S.
While it’s true that there’s a good chance that will change over time, the PS5 is already a veteran console and the fact is compounded by the fact that most PS5 titles can also be played on the PS4, so for a user who has the previous console of the Japanese brand… it’s almost not worth updating.
Buying a PS5 is still quite expensive
The second reason why at the moment it is not worth buying a PS5 is that it is still a fairly expensive console, and it is that although as we have already explained in other articles, the internal hardware it mounts is well worth the price they are asking for this product, the reality is that shelling out the over $500 that the PS5 costs still hurts a lot in the pocket… at least for most folks.
To this we must add the price of the games, because they have raised the bar quite a bit and now the norm is to establish a launch price of 70-80 dollars, and this for games that are in fact relatively incomplete (if you want more content, you’ll have to buy more “advanced” versions with lots of suffixes that make them look special but are actually just the full game sold at a much higher price).
In our honest opinion, we believe that the incomplete games actually released for 70-80 dollars, and the more expensive versions do not provide additional content, but are the complete game as it should have been released in its version normal.
New versions of PS5 are expected very soon
PS5 slim there PS5 Pro These are two names that have been ringing the net for quite some time, and after more than two and a half years since the console’s initial launch, it seems like the time has come for Sony to release an updated version of it.
With dimensions of 390 x 104 x 260 mm and a weight of 4.5 kg, the PS5 is really quite bulky and heavy and does not look good on all TV furniture, since we remember that a console is essentially designed for use in the living room. bedroom, playing from the sofa and with a large television. All rumors point to the next iteration of the Sony console being a Slim version, with the same power but with a smaller and lighter design, although we shouldn’t forget that long-awaited, more powerful Pro version. and whose next release seems to be the same, everything is inevitable… at some point.
In any case, the proximity of these potential releases is also a reason not to buy a PS5 right now. Let’s be honest: if you’re going to spend the money this console costs, it’s better to do it on a new model and not one that’s been on the market for over two and a half years.
