Quite negative information comes from Computex 2024, which is being held these days in Taiwan. In recent hours, rumors have multiplied about a possible delay at the launch of the AMD Radeon RX 8000 series and the Battlemage Intel Arc. According to rumors, their launch is not planned for the end of this year, but will be postponed to the first quarter of 2025.
We know, almost with certainty, that NVIDIA will launch the new RTX 50 series between September and November. It is expected to launch the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 first, then the rest of the models.
In response to this launch, the new AMD RX 8000 series based on the RDNA4 architecture is expected to arrive. Intel was also expected to launch the Battlemage Arc based on the Xe2 architecture. This design is used in Lunar Lake processors for laptops.
Intel and AMD reportedly delay the launch of their graphics
During its conference at Computex 2024, AMD commented absolutely nothing on its RNDA4 architecture. This will be the basis of its future RX 8000 Series graphics cards, the arrival of which was planned for the end of the year. It looks like there is a change in timelines and it is being moved to Q1 2025 and could be shown at CES 2025.
On the other hand, Intel showed all the characteristics of its new Xe2 graphics architecture. Lunar Lake processors will be the first to use these new GPUs. This design will be the basis of the new Battlemage Arc which has also reportedly been delayed until 2025.
Initially, AMD would launch the RX 8700 XT and RX 8800 XT models to compete with NVIDIA’s high-end models. These would be the models that would be delayed until early next year.
While the new Intel Arc Battlemage will have quite limited performance. According to early rumors, the most powerful model based on the Xe2 design could have similar power to NVIDIA’s RTX 4070. Note that the current Arc A770 had similar power to the RTX 4060 and Radeon RX 7600.
NVIDIA Warns of Low Stock
Oddly enough, a few days ago, NVIDIA hinted that there might be a serious shortage of RTX 50-series graphics stock. You might think that’s because the company is prioritizing solutions for the ‘AI, but that’s not the case. The lack of stock will affect both gaming and artificial intelligence solutions.
What you need to know is that TSMC is the manufacturer of AMD and NVIDIA graphics, and perhaps Intel graphics as well. Putting all the pieces together, it appears that the Taiwanese foundry would be facing some sort of problem.
Most likely the problem is due to high demand or a supply issue. Most likely, this will be an increase in demand, especially for products aimed at artificial intelligence. We are talking about a segment whose demand is currently much higher than supply.
The geopolitical situation on the island of Taiwan is also not the best. China demands that this island become another province of the country again and undergoes a certain blockade and military maneuvers on its coasts. Taiwan benefits from the strategic support of the United States and of course, China does not want (for the moment) to trigger a conflict of this magnitude.
