New year and another XPS 13. Dell has redesigned the design of its flagship bookmark and flagship ultrabook to provide it with new features that allow it to stay on top of the new year 2020, under a very similar design.
To clarify this point, almost all the changes that Dell has made to the 2020 model have been made since the 2nd update on the 1 XPS 13 variable in mid-2019, with a 16-factor screen: 10 without frames, 10 nm processors and low power consumption.
In short, Dell has saved all the best in the previous version and made it upgrade.
Price and availability
First of all the good news: you won't have to wait for your arrival because the new XPS 13 for 2020 has already been sold since last January at a suggested $ 999 price in the case of the most basic configuration.
Dell has yet to confirm which market for all the configuration will be available, but it is likely that the basic model available in our country will have 512 GB of storage and 16 GB of RAM, compared to 256 GB and 4 GB on the market in the United States
Design and build quality
Compared to the comparison of laptops we gave last year the XPS 13 remained among the best models and not surprisingly, this year keeps the bar high.
Obviously, being one of the best 13-inches by ultrabook doesn't make it the best textbook, since some users will bet the most powerful configuration depending on the performance.
There will also be a profile for many games that will choose a larger screen size or the flexibility to have a larger number of ports. However, for those looking for a more affordable solution, they will find that the Dell XPS 13 is a good choice.
And that the new Dell XPS 13 model for 2020 follows the tonic of providing a larger screen, as well as a larger and wider rotary keyboard integrated with a smaller laptop body. How does Dell do this?
Let's go step by step. The new 16:10 scale panel makes better use of the lower screen bezel (with the Dell logo), leaving the screen seamless with any of its components.
You will only notice that there is a webcam on the upper edge, but in principle, we can safely say that we have a laptop with a screen that runs from one end to the other.
Its diagonal is 13.4 inches with the option of getting it in FullHD panel mode of 1,920 x 1200 pixels, or in 4K HDR format with a resolution of 3840 x 2400 pixels. The 4K panel can only be purchased with a touch screen, while Different FHD + has both.
Each screen variant we mentioned has a decent amount of brightness of 500 nits, with 100% sRGB color combinations. The 16:10 format fits a small 12- and 13-inch screen especially if you use them to watch Netflix.
Losing a low bezel also doesn't hurt. On the contrary, it adds more viewing space and gives the laptop a much more modern look and feel than we normally see.
Another important point comes when evaluating the functionality and ergonomics of your keyboard. As a screen, it's now nearing the edge, which leaves the room clutching large buttons in all directions.
This has caused the font to be changed again: resilient and modern, with the change of minimizing non-letter keys. The edge key is possible when moving the finger scanner to the power button.
Importantly, while the size of the XPS-inspired keyboard is variable, this model does not use the MagLev split keyboard used by the model; instead, you stick to the same rubber bands as before, with 1 mm comfortable travel writing as before.
All other changes here are minor. The whole body is 2 percent smaller, not enough to notice at first glance, but every little detail is helpful. And the touchpad area is great.
As far as connecting with the connection ports concerned, the options are very restricted. It has two USB ports C Thunderbolt 3, which has power and DisplayPort functionality instead of three USB ports for the previous generation XPS 13 model. MicroSD reader stores that.
The finish is introduced with anodized aluminum material with some fiber detail, both in black and white, though the white model now has black features instead of white bezels around its screen. It looks like the visualization has improved.
Specification and performance
Another major internal change: the adoption of the 10nm Intel Core 10nm chips ensures improved power efficiency and performance, as well as this thinner body.
Just like last year, there is a basic i3 model available, with the rating option on the Intel Core i5 or i7. It should be noted that all of these are quad-core chips, since Intel has not yet made six versions of its 10 nm chips. The XPS 13 at the end of 2019 offered six popsicles.
As expected at this size, there are no options for discrete GPUs, so you will be paired with Intel chip integrated graphics power, although there is now an option between the UHD or the more powerful Iris Plus graphics chip.
At that time, RAM memory varies from 4 GB 32 GB DDR4, where 256 GB of storage is stored in 2 TB, all SSDs can be upgraded unchanged in motherboard as in other models of the market.
Battery is another fac tor that we as users are most important in the ultralight laptop. Dell hasn't given much updates to this, since it just kept up last year's volume.
It comes with the same 52 WHr power transmission where we have to deal with usage times of up to 10 hours, except for the models the team has to handle and enable a 4K quality panel. Here's the difference.
The connection also produces a small, natural jump in its part, as it now offers Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 6, the latest market standards. There is no support or type of 5G, though Dell introduced it in other models such as the Latitude 9510.
The first decision
We had the opportunity to spend a quarter of an hour with the new Dell XPS 13 for 2020, so soon we will be able to roll out a deeper experiment. However, we shared that the 2018 and 2019 generations were among the best in their class.
We've seen how Dell improves the weaknesses, even though we like to make larger batteries, though they may affect the final size of the computer. We will wait for the full review of the final exam based on its performance.
