The new Huawei P40 range is already for sale and it looks like it will be able to offer what we see in other golf courses, such as Galaxy S20 (see review), Oppo Get X2 Pro y IPhone 11 Pro.
While it doesn't have the other end-to-end features you'll see on the P40 Pro and Pro +, the standard Huawei P40 has a lot to offer, but is it enough to find the gap left by the lack of Google Play Services? It is a simple question and a complex answer.
Design and form factor
No matter where you look at it, the Huawei P40 looks great. With an amazing combination of glass and aluminum, the phone's body offers such a beautiful finish that without a doubt, some manufacturers will keep the cast in the short term.
Like the P40 Pro, the P40 is available with a brand new finish over black, namely Silver Frost and Blush Gold. Matte finish is nothing new, but Huawei uses a reflective look that can differentiate the reflections of your surroundings.
In the world of glossy rear-end goods that reflect increased light, this new approach is effective and offers a smooth, more perfect finish that hides the presence of fingers and toes.
As for the cameras, they are all grouped under a recognizable triangle sign, which makes mobile navigation uncomfortable on a table or a flat roof, but the performance follows these small design details.
Huawei has made an effort to provide an attractive and lightweight camera module, as it always did in its Mate series, all bundled under the box, instead of offering compatible sensors such as the P30 and P30 Pro.
It also helps that all camera accessories, including the microphone and flash camera, stay in one module, giving it a much cleaner look than other competitors' smartphones.
Obviously, if you choose to use the case of your cellphone that covers and protects your back, you will also find a cell phone to rest comfortably on the table.
Show
The standard P40 screen is 6.1 inches FHD with small cutouts located on the left side of its front, where perfened cameras are available. For driving purposes, they will soon go unnoticed.
The only annoyance we notified was the notifications from the status bar, which now move to the center of the screen, which may look dirty, but it's just a minor complaint.
The P40 keeps a standard fingerprint scanner on the screen, which works really well. According to Huawei, it's 30 percent bigger in the area P30 (see review), which reduces the possibility of failure when used.
Combined with Android Face recognition technology, you have to insert a pin to unlock the phone. Unlike the Pro models, this face recognition does not work in low light using an IR scanner.
And does the Huawei P40 not have the same overFlow curved screen without the bezel that both the P40 Pro and the top-end P40 Pro + have, losing the element of surprise their older brothers have.
The absence of curved edges means that the frames are available on the P40, though they are much smaller than what you will find on other smart phones, such as the iPhone 11.
Although we accept that the dual-level P40 has limitations in some aspects compared to the Pro models, we do not agree that the P40 display level is 60 Hz, when the other two models reach 90 Hz.
It is clear that there is a cut of the benefits to offer the best price, but when looking at the competition models, we find the Realme 6 model with a 90 Hz screen at the same price, which is a big deal. by 2020.
Camera functionality
Indeed, the camera system is the main reason for choosing the Huawei P40. It doesn't offer the quad or paint camera setup found in the Pro variants, but all three share the same 50MP R / YB f / 1.9 sensor that Huawei counts as the highest.
Though it doesn't have the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 MP resolution, the most affordable premium model from Huawei has a large camera sensor that any smartphone can offer 1 / 1.28 inches, surpassing the iPhone 11's or the Global S20's.
Generally, a larger sensor should allow for more detail to be captured as well as having a higher power range and less noise. This is what the main P40 camera offers with its 50 MP.
Even when you zoom in, the photos are always very detailed, making it possible to distinguish and appreciate small details that other smartphones don't have the same price.
Huawei has been taking the lead in low-light models, and unfortunately, the larger P40 sensor has also gone through these low-light conditions. The best here comes from the third-generation DaVinci NPU engine that analyzes all captured images.
Sensitivity travels pixel by pixel, enhancing each part of the image, even those parts when the images are far away, using self-improvement metrics to improve them.
This is post-processing AI and comes with 16MP f / 2.2 wide-angle telephoto and an additional 8MP f / 2.0 3x, which offers overall enhancements to captured images.
The secondary lenses work just as well as the primary sensor in many areas, although we did find the x3 phone lens sometimes misusing focus and taking small blurry images.
In this sense, if you want more functionality on secondary cameras, the quad camera system and the P40 Pro and Pro + variant paint are a better choice.
The main sensor features Octa PD AutoFocus technology, and while that may mean a lot to you in photos you shoot in traditional mode, we see how fast and accurate the sensor is when it comes to instant focus.
Makes a 50 MP sensor ready for high-speed photography, such as animals and children, until the P40 is able to catch runaway animals. Combine this with a quick shot and you'll see that you have a real mobile beast.
During our experiments, we found that the AI and Live Photo mode cannot be used at the same time. The AI analyzes each frame in real time and suggests three excellent images.
By itself, when using a live photo collection, AI can analyze and remove passers-by from behind the scenes, with great results, even though you should know that the effect is limited to only three people.
As for the front cameras, except for the double glazing, we only looked at the 32 MP camera. Another hole is for the depth sensor and, or replaces the same view, we would say the results are not relevant.
Selfies have a high level of detail, as seen in the photo, and the dynamic range is impressive, even in challenging light conditions, such as when the sun hits your back.
It is one of the few phones I have found that I have no problem taking selfies and getting great results, and it is only necessary due to the subtle beauty effects that can be used.
Performance of flagging model
Not surprisingly, the Huawei P40 offers amazing performance, equally sporting the 7nm Kirin 990 5G chipset found on the Mate 30 Pro and MatePad Pro, as well as the other P40 range.
There’s also the Money G76 GPU for graphics, which offers 36 percent more performance compared to the G76 found in the P30 range, as well as 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. (Extended using the Nano Huawei memory card).
You can get a lot of RAM and storage if you want a P40 Pro or Pro +, but with a P40 for handling things well, performance should not be an excuse to go for something that will cost you extra money.
In fact, the Huawei P40 is the best light, which makes heavy apps like Twitter and Facebook run faster on average smartphones (and some of the best features).
It's not as clear as what the P40 Pro and Pro + offer with a 90Hz display power supply, but it will be difficult to find a multimedia application that will render the P40 unresponsive or straightforward.
It is something that we have confirmed based on our bench results obtained by test samples, the P40 works much better than the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, OnePlus 7T Pro, or Google Pixel 4 XL as shown in the graph.
Just defeated by the almighty (and surprisingly expensive) Oppo Get the X2 Pro depending on the CPU's brute power.
Independence and fast billing
When it comes to battery life, the P40 features a 3,800 mAh capacity model that, to our knowledge, easily accommodates all day and average usage.
It won't mark the high-end product with more than two days of use and full charge, but with the help of 22,5W fast charging and a compatible charger provided as usual, the P40 can recover 38 percent battery in 30 minutes.
This he did during my trial. It is by no means the industry leader in any aspects of charging, as there are flags with fast charging technology and high capacity batteries, but they provide what you will need for your day to day.
The most notable disappointment here is the lack of wireless charging; While the P40 Pro and Pro + charge a 40W wireless charger, the P40 doesn't mind it and this is something that is already standard on the range smartphones. the premium.
It's no surprise that the Huawei P40, with the Kirin 990 5G chipset, supports 5G connectivity, but doesn't end there with next-generation connectivity. It also features what the company calls the WiFi 6 Plus, as if WiFi 6 wasn't novel enough, providing support for 160 MHz bandwidth, with a theoretical maximum speed of 2.4 Gbps.
That's an impressive claim, but it's very likely (almost impossible) that your home router will provide you with Wi-Fi 6 Plus compatibility, so don't expect those kinds of speed in the real world. However, it is a good option for the future.
Along with 5G and WiFi 6 Plus, you'll find Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, USB-C connectivity and seven GPS systems to help provide more accurate location data, even in the metropolitan areas.
Software without Google Play Services
Huawei has been working hard in recent months with AppGallery, since losing access to Google Play services in 2019. The app itself is well-built, and while it still has some of the best and biggest Android apps, the offering is surprisingly improving.
You can now find apps like Amazon Shopping, Microsoft Office and Snapchat on AppGallery, and although they are not available by birth, the store does provide links for downloading apps like Facebook and WhatsApp.
It is also possible to use the Huawei Phone Clone system to transfer compatible apps to the P40 from other model models, even if they are not available on AppGallery.
The only problem with using Phone Clone is that unsupported apps will not receive future updates to fix bugs and add functionality. To get that, you'll need to use illegal resources like APKPure to update apps like Facebook and WhatsApp.
APKPure also provides access to apps not available on AppGallery, including Instagram and Call of Duty Mobile, which has made it an illegal app for those who run a smartphone outside of Google Play.
However, apps that need access to Google Play services, such as Google Maps and YouTube, won't work, so don't think about trying to install Google Assistant.
EMUI 10.1 introduces Huawei's obvious assistant: Celia. It's Celia's early days, and while she's doing a good job of understanding what she's saying, she can't do much now against the competition.
It will handle basic functions like texting and disabling wifi, but don't expect the level of integration with apps and good home technology that can be accessed by Google Assistant, Siri and Amazon Alexa.
Huawei has laid the groundwork, as have supporters from Apple and Google in its early days, and it will be interesting to see how Huawei arrives with Celia in the coming months (or years), and if it doesn't stay something like Bixby & # 39; s Samsung.
Price and availability
New Huawei P40 You can buy it now at the suggested price of € 799 in black price or in Silver Frost. If you choose to eliminate Blush Gold Gold then you have to wait for its availability.
This is a mobile configuration with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, in addition to the installation of 5G serial communication technology. You can buy it through Huawei website or to the iconic shops of Madrid and Barcelona, now locked up in prison.
In front of my brother Huawei P40 Pro For higher speeds, the price difference is € 300, which means a great savings to consider if you really think you won't get much out of the higher model.
Of course, Huawei is continuing the veto of Google's inability to install its Google Play services, where the company has tightened its offer on its AppGallery.
As it is, it is a very competitive price for a smartphone that is considered a wave in 2020, but you will need to seriously consider whether your savings are worth it in comparison to Google Play's lack of commitment.
The final decision
Finding the final conclusion is not easy. Though the P40 cuts some features compared to the more advanced models the premium For P40 Pro and Pro +, you can continue to compete in performance against the majority of cell phones considered as marks of 2020.
The Big MP sensor is among the best we've ever seen on any smartphone, including photos with lots of detail that is also enhanced by a third-generation smart phone system.
Also considered secondary lenses, such as wide angle and telephoto ulgra, keep the type. It is a very attractive and very controllable smartphone (more if possible than its older siblings), thanks to the large 6.1-inch FHD + screen.
The crux of this issue occurs in other Huawei mobiles, the inability to use the Google Play services we rely on AppGallery.
Huawei came a long way last year, and now offers some popular western apps, but it's still far from competing with Google Play.
There are other solutions, such as using Phone Clone to bring unsupported apps from your old smartphone and using APK-sharing websites, but it's not a worthwhile experience.
The lack of Google Play services means it's not just for everyday consumers, but for those with some experience in technology (I can't see adults installing WhatsApp from other sources).
For all these people, it would mean saving significant prices compared to their older siblings, lowering the price well below the critical figure that appears to be € 1,000.
